New M240 Auto start/stop remains off

Just bought a new M240 recently. I was expecting to have to deal with turning off the auto start/stop feature constantly. However, I’m pleasantly surprised that it remains in the off mode. Did BMW go back to allowing this?

I am a little hesitant to take my car back to the dealer for any maintenance fearing that they are going to code it back on

My 2017 has always had auto start/stop turned off in Comfort Mode. To my knowledge it is only ever automatically on when you are in Eco Pro mode.

Once you turn it off, for a particular keyfob, it will remember that setting.
That has been true for a while now.
The exception, as noted is in Eco Pro, where auto stop/start will always override your chosen setting.

There is a button above the Start/Stop button which will disable Auto-Stop. However, even if that is on, the transmission (assuming an AT) must be in "D"; having it in "S" or "M" will disable auto-stop.

Thanks. For some reason I thought BMW had gone back to having to turn it off every time you started the car

My understanding is that the system defaults to "On" every time you start the car in Europe. Here in America it remembers what setting you had it in when you turn the car off.

Isn't this something that changed due to EPA regulations sometime between 2017 and now? My fiancee's 2020 mini cooper does not remember the ASS setting so she has to turn it off each time she gets in the car. When I looked into it, this (remembering the ASS setting) is a software feature that was intentionally removed sometime between 2017 and 2020 for Mini. Basically, the EPA ratings don't count if ASS off setting is remembered (or something like that). Since Mini did this I just assumed it applied to 2017 vs. 2020 BMWs as well. So I'm pleasantly surprised if OP has a 2020 BMW that remembers the ASS off setting.

I'm going to be honest here. I have absolutely no idea what USDM means.

They removed the memory for ASS on/off, on the new G20 for US-spec vehicles.
