Angry Acting up already?

I just got my 08 328xi on 08/25, tonight after I took an exit and going down a slight sloop, and going to make a right turn, I slow down my car to "almost" a complete stop but still rolling, when I see no car is coming, I stepped on my gas pedal (I have an AT), my car is not moving at all, it feels like I didnt put it in gear or something, I push the pedal down harder to almost the bottom and it started to move slowly and accelerate like a turtle. I believe if there is car behind me, I might already got rear ended.

Anyone knows what is going on?

In fact, I have been driving MT in my whole life, from acura integra vtec to VW GTI 1.8T, I love the speed and the quick in acceleration of both cars. And I love to play with the shift. After I got my E90, I dont feel the speed at all unless I am driving on a smooth highway with not much traffic. But, everytime when I am trying to pull out from a stop or trying to speed up and take over a car, I feel the lag/hesitation of the car. Is this the cause of being an AT? I really miss my MT cars and really regretted not getting the 335xi.

Yes, the E90 328 is not very fast even if it is RWD manual trans, so AWD and auto is going to be a lot worse. Sorry, you should have noticed this on the test drive.

By the way, there is a lot of good things about slow E90 such as the smoothness, quietness and of course the badge

Best of luck and I hope you find a way to enjoy your car!

bummer! I have got 5 cars in 10 years, the longest time of the car I own was my last car an 05 VW 1.8T, I was thinking to keep my E90 for 5 years, but it seems like my friend got me right, he said I will not keep this car for more than 2 years.

!!! I have to convinced myself to try to love my new toys!!!

Search the forum for "transmission reset". This lag/slowness is well documented. It seems especially slow on hot days with the AC on full blast. The first time I encountered it, I thought my engine had stalled.

I get this too, but not as much as you probably. I notice that you have to really hit the gas to get it going. Either that or I'm impatient.

Drive, Sport or M Mode? If you want a semblance of quick acceleration, you'll need to keep it in DS as a minimum, or use the paddles. I've never experienced the lag that you describe, but then again I keep the car in DS if I need aggressive shift points. Plus, how many miles? My experience has been that most engines need two or three K before they come into their own.

When I had my 328i, I thought the car was very responsive at all speeds in the DS mode. Use that and I think you will be happier. Sometimes I thought the car was starting in 2nd gear because the performance was lacking.

DS & Paddles

I suggest that you keep the car in DS for a minimum of two weeks in combo with using the paddles in those situations where you normally would shift in MT to gain a performance benefit. Although it will result in lower mileage, it's well worth the loss of a mile or two. You will never replicate the feel of the GTI or Integra (AWD weight/auto transmission), but you just might stop hating yourself for not selecting the 335.

For Drive mode, I found that the adaptive aspect of the transmission did indeed result in more responsive shifts after 3K.

Good luck!

I will be taking my 08 bmw in for the 3rd time this year. I thought I was going to keep this car for at least 10 years but I will probably get an s2010 when it comes out.

don't focus on the acceleration.. the E9X can use wider tire than GTi/integra/WRX etc and it can carry a fair amount of speed in the corners. I miss my WRX AWD launch but seems like E90 can carry a lot more speed
