nutz,
as I posted to you in the other thread, it's going to depend on your run. You need to know whats the speed of the 335i 6MT at redline in 3rd. If you have a good run and are going to get to that speed before hitting the limiter you'll want to shift. Meaning if 110 mph is redline in 3rd and you get 110 mph say 100 feet before the 1/4 mark you are either going to hit the limiter or need to shift into 4th. I'd say hitting the limiter is going to ruin the run. You'd be better off short shifting 3rd a couple hundred rpm before redline (say at 108 mph) and get into 4th and get back on the gas to get past the 110 mph mark before crossing the 1/4 mile mark. |

I did that in the auto and got as good as time (actually a tick better) than I did launching in M1 where tire spin was an issue.
If traction isn't an issue, M1 will clearly give a better time. In a manual, I'd think it would bog too much, even with a 4K rpm launch (and you'd have to ride the clutch a bit). |

+1 you will need to shift to 4th esp. if modded.
you can get a sub-2 sec 60' on 6mt but you need to get off the clutch fairly quick and just get the right amount of gas. it takes quite a bit of practice.

dont try launching in 2nd with a 6mt...my curiosity got the better of me and boy did the car roast the clutch...the first maybe 5-10mph launching at 4k rpm felt good then the clutch gave out and the needle slammed to the limiter. just my experience...will never do it again.

A shift right at the end of the 1/4mi isn't going to do much to your ET at all but it will tweak your finishing mph down slightly.
If someone has a dynojet graph of a stock 335 with road speed indicated on the bottom of the chart that would pretty much be an empirical way of explaning things. A stock 335 shouldn't finish over about 105mph so as long as the road speed at 100-105mph stay under the limiter you should be ok. I'd like to know if this will work too as I've not yet been to the track with my stock 335 but will do so in about a month.

Third goes to 107mph at redline, but power tapers off pretty good up there, especially stock. I tend to shift between 6500 and 6700 depending on power, so I'd always go to fourth on a tuned car. Hope this helps.

My car is auto, and as many times as I have run at the drag strip, the computer shifted into 4th before the finish, but pretty close to it.

Yes but the power drop at 6200 rpm...you must shift in 4th. I shift the 3th and 4th at 6200 rpm. And my time is best than if I shift at 6500-6600. My opinion (slip time and dyno opininion, lol) AA processor, AA exhaust with GForece tire on 335 xi. A+ |

I usually short shift 3rd a bit (shift into 4th at 6200rpm or so). Revving it out to 7000rpm and then going into 4th gear slowed me down quite a bit. IIRC, it was the difference between a 111mph trap speed and a 116mph trap speed. Power just rolls off too much above 6000rpm in the taller gears.

Hmm, I thought the same way but when I shifted at 6500 rpm in each gear, my ET was 2 tenths slower than when I shifted at 7000 rpm each time. I will try to shift at 6200 rpm going into 4th and see how that affects my ET and mph.

I cant wait to run the car all the way out and see what I can do. I've been running my V3 hard, to redline in 3rd and close to redline in 4th, no limps.
