Geocaching
Anybody had a go?
My 8 year old loves it and we’ve now found a few, we planted our own yesterday and it’s been approved and found 3 times already. I already know it’s going to be my next geek obsession |

I've used it with the kids before, they found it really interesting, often there's a notebook where you can leave a message for the next person who finds it

Yep we’ve left a little scroll as it’s a small cylinder, it’ll be interesting to see what’s been written but the notifications come through the app anyway.

We did it with the kids a few years ago, it's surprising how many are around.

Have heard about it before but never followed it up. Just downloaded the app and apparently I passed within about 6 feet of one on my way home from a walk last night. Who knew...

A friend of mine showed me it and some of the places where things are hidden are really outstanding. You wouldn't notice them just passing by unless you looked hard. Those little ones though... pain in the neck to get the paper out!

About the official GC app check also 'c:geo' - you can have offline maps with it. But if you are really with the Geocaching then I would go with Garmin handheld GPS devices as they are more accurate than phone apps.

I suggested it once to my friends and their kids when visiting. The whole family loved it, especially the kids. Like a difficult, cooperative version of hide and seek with lots of education and exercise involved - whats not to like!
Will definitely be doing lots when i become a dad |
