Question F30 335D xDribe Front Brake Disc Corroded

Gents my car is recently been to BMW and in the Vehicle check video the technician has highlighted that both my Front Brake Discs are heavily corroded on the inside and pads needs replacing too. My car is done 34K miles and are discs covered under extended warranty? I checked online and it is a big bill of £730 to get both fron discs and pads replaced. Just wanted to check what options do I really have. Btw not driving the car at the moment...Please advise...thanks

Considered maintenance unfortunately so I doubt they cover you under warranty unless they consider it a "defect" which you may be able to push for it. got any pics of this "corrosion" that they claim?

So given it's under warranty...you need new front rotors and pads, at least.

I can't see them arguing against covering it under warranty...and, if I were you, I'd ask if they're going to replace the calipers as well?

There is some reason why the pad isn't hitting the inside rotor as it should...something isn't right.

I would consider this a defect, seems like there's some protective coating that must be missing for it to corrode to that degree. I'd push for a goodwill or it fixed under warranty.

The inside pads aren't hitting the rotor evenly.

I've seen them where only the middle hits on a single piston caliper. On ours, perhaps one of your pistons is binding causing that pattern. It's not the rust...it's that the pads aren't cleaning the rust off I think.

The pistons or the calipers aren't sliding as they should.

Aah, I see your point. I can see that now, regardless should be a defect unless OP did some self-inflicted damage. but I doubt that.

If I was out of warranty, I'd replace pads, rotors, and get remanned calipers...or perhaps see if there's a rebuild kit...clean up the pistons.

There's nothing the OP could have done to be responsible for this on both sides. I'd hint to the dealer that I hope this isn't the beginning of signs of a factory defect...something we should all be paying attention to.

OP may have let it sit outside, maybe sprayed it with salt and dirt and grease...but these are bmw brakes and should hold up to all conditions. Pads and rotors might be consumables and not covered, but a caliper not sliding or piston not working...that's not consumable...and because it was defective, both the pads and rotors are toast too. Neither of the later contributed to this.

OP...use the 'class action' language...and be really nice...and mention the thousands the world over following this service tech's response.

Good luck.

Goof ups at the factory do happen. My experience:

The damage to the rotors isn't normal wear. It would be interesting to see what the inner pads look like.

Thank you all, but the in video BMW technician only recommends chanding discs and pads but nothing he highlighted about Callipers or possible piston issues?

Problems with the calipers etc. can only be diagnosed with the wheels off. I'd call this a very basic inspection, by no means thorough.
