2,200 M2 CS will be produced worldwide

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
2200 world wide is what BMW is telling dealers as told by my sales person today. Production for US starting Sept. All cars will be MY2020 regardless of build date and/or delivery date. Number of US cars is unknown at this point.

I'm sure some or maybe all this info has been posted although I could not find it. Take it for what it is...

EDIT by Artemis:

The 2200 figure also featured on the flyer posted in May 2019 over here at Bimmerpost ("Volume: 2.200") (months before the official M2 CS launch in November 2019):

But when will dealers get allocations and begin orders? September?

I was told Hopefully July, and no later than August. Here we are running out of August. It seems promising that more dealerships are hearing more CS information. Since I believe it is being timed with 2021 M3/M4 orders it is a good sign that Demo orders for the M3/M4 are open.

Seems like they are finishing up production for the European cars and then it's full speed ahead for production of the m2cs for the rest of the world!

If production is coming in September, wouldn't allocations also happen in September?

I was told 6 weeks from start of production to delivery with deliveries taking place Nov and Dec. If you use Nov1 as a start of delivery, then production for US cars would have to start mid September. I believe there is a holiday shutdown in October. That would put all allocations coming out early September, or they come out on a rolling basis where dealerships are notified at the time of their production slot.

South Africa is supposed to take delivery of their 30 cars the end of December. Those are RHD models. Built already, maybe? Produced after US production? I can't imagine they flip flop RHD/LHD production?

Australia is RHD, probably same spec as South Africa, Japan etc and these are being built in October.

That leads me to believe the US production slots in September through October plant break.

It'd be interesting to know what the daily/weekly output rate of the plant is for these models.

Of course... one would think, yes. I'm just the messenger passing along any and all info offered to me. And, yes, I had a plethora of questions, including yours, for the SA.

That can't be accurate. S55 engine fails EU emission regulation which comes in effect 2021. CS or no CS.

Regarding the EURO-spec M2 CS:

European cars are build first so that they have a CoC before end of August since the S55 engine is not compliant anymore from September onwards.
(CoC = Certificate of Conformity)

Heard through the grapevine a couple of months ago: October 31, 2020 as cut-off date (EOP) for the EURO-spec M2C and M2 CS ("M2 und M2 CS laufen am 31.10.2020 aus für Europa (WLTP Version).").
