Front Camber with MP Coilovers and KWV3

For my '17 OGM2 (fast road/occasional track days/sprints, happy to come 2nd last), I think I've narrowed my search to M-Perf or KWV3, and the suspension place I use suggested Ground Control camber plates to add a little extra. I think I read something by Bee Pee that mentioned an increase in the negative camber when he fitted his MP Coilovers alone.

I was quite tempted by the BMW Camber Hubs so as to lose as little refinement as possible, but the quote I'm getting (Aus) is a little out of proportion for the gains.

So the question - do you gain some negative camber just by fitting the MP or KW kit? And what sort of readings have folk had pre/post install?

G'day mate,

I did a huge write up on this at this thread:

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...nge+suspension

The 7th paragraph answers your question:

After setting the ride height on the front, the camber was remeasured and found to be -1.65 on both sides. This is typical behaviour of a MacPherson strut with a slight increase in camber during the first part of suspension travel. However, if lowered even further to the point where the lower control arm goes past horizontal and starts to slope upwards then the camber change will reverse. I’m actually very pleased with the .15 degree increase in negative camber that goes with the 25mm drop and for a 100% street setup, this is an excellent value. Unless you track the car, there is simply no need to try and get more negative camber on the front so the factory strut tops will serve you well. However if tracking (which I do) more negative camber is desirable and thus camber plates become necessary.

Awesome stuff! I'll have a good read right through after work but that's most helpful.

I have M performance coilovers with about -1.5 camber on front and set pretty low, I'm looking at camber plates because Im going to destroy my MP4S without the plates on the track

I ran lowered on MPC for about 2 years, I do believe it was around -1.6 camber. This was good for 90% street 10% track, however I always had to replace my tires due to outer shoulder wear.

I'm now running plates with -2.8 camber with a dedicated street and dedicated track set. Wear on track is perfect, but I'll need to see how that affects wear on the inner shoulders of my tires.

With M Performance Suspension only, shop was able to get camber to 1.7L and 1.9R in the front and 2.2 in the rear. Ride height was 603FL/604FR and 600LR/RR. Ride height/Alignment was optimized for the Nordschleife.

In the rear the Cup 2s are wearing nicely after a few track days, but as others have reported, fronts outsides are destroyed.

I have KWv3. Not sure what my camber was at before installing, but now it's at -1.4 degrees on both fronts. I'm lowered 3/4" in front and 1/2" in rear, IIRC. Rear camber is at -1.8

Are camber plates required if you are running KW V3 for street use?

No. The KW V3's will bolt right up to the OEM top hats.
