X5MC Light Toe Hitch (US Model)

About to order a new X5MC but need a Toe Hitch (at least for bike rack) but my possible deal breaker is lack of a toe hitch option, including aftermarket.

I currently have a '17 X6M with the bmw toe hitch and I was hoping I could have a factory option here as well but it seems impossible. Does anyone have any insight into this?

Thank you in advance!

I need it as well and contacted stealth hitch about it. They said late fall they will have a product.

I also heard late fall from my local installer.

On a related note, does anyone know what the tow rating is for the X5M? I can't find it anywhere.

Legally there isn't one because BMW did not certify the vehicle to be a tow designation.

I am in the same situation. I have my X6MC spec’d out. Ready to order, but will not order until I am sure I can have a tow solution. Waiting for Stealth and BMW OEM harness availability. Unfortunately this is a deal breaker for me. Currently have a e70 X6M with a execuhitch and am happy with the hitch.

Having a box hitch opens up the world in bike carriers and other slick solutions without actually wanting to tow anything. At the very least it gives the X5 a place to easily attach a tow rope. Its a no brainer to have a hitch on a vehicle this size just for a attachment point.

This is nuts. Look at this video here of a 2020 x5m Competition.

Not only does the euro spec car have a toe hitch, it has an electronic self hiding one from BMW. So awesome!

Stealth Hitch

I've been talking with Stealth Hitch and they are very confident in their ability to provide a hitch that fits. They are waiting for the first person to order, my new 2021 X5M Comp just finished production so I should be able to tell everyone relatively soon.

That is nice, but no receiver for box type attachments such as bike racks

Would be so great to just be able to contact BMW, pay a little extra, get the carbon exterior items that the Eurospec X5MC vehicles get and the toe hitch option. They are all made here in america anyway. So annoying! Just to confirm, US Spec delete the electric luggage privacy cover, the rear seat entertainment, the sky lounge, the carbon engine cover and carbon mirror covers and the toe hitch. Am i missing anything else?

I don't understand car manufacturers in general why some markets get certain options.. even if you're willing to order the car and pay for it.

A lot of it has to do with regulations on region they are in. As to why exactly we can't have a stealth hitch from factory, I'd like to know.

They said that they are waiting for someone to bring a car in so they can do their thing. If they are waiting for someone to order, I will step up

So, if you are ready for aftermarket solution why you don’t want to buy euro-spec toe hitch? My X5M doesn’t have oem toe hitch from factory, but will set it up after delivery.

Sorry to bump an old thread.

Has anyone tried to install the BMW OEM euro tow hitch solution on a US car??

I like the integration with cameras / vehicle electronics that comes with a BMW OEM solution.

You don't need the Euro hitch to integrate with the factory electronics and camera. You can do that with aftermarket hitches like Stealth, you just have to install the factory trailer module and wiring and code it correctly. There are other threads about this. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere the Euro hitch did not comply with US towing standards.

Yea that makes sense. What I want is something that’s close or same as the towing package that M50i comes with. Mainly for bike racks.

It's not plug and play but it can be done. I have a thread over in the "other" bimmer site. Just Google search for "X7 factory trailer hitch wiring help".

So there are no options for your normal say 2" square tubing hitch for bike racks?

Stealth hitch. It's been mentioned a few times in this thread already Comes with a 2" receiver and a TOW hitch if you want to TOW something.

By default it won't integrate with the vehicle like an oem solution, but you can buy the module and have it coded. If you don't, you will need to disable auto parking sensors and you won't gain stability control for your TOWed trailer. Plus a few other minor things.

Highly recommend stealth hitch. If you were to retrofit the Euro one, you lose the 2" receiver since their solution is a fixed ball hitch. It's also possible that the "ball" is a different size from what we use here in NA.
