PCD

I had asked about performance Center Delivery and SA forwarded a message saying my pick up date would be 12/8.
I asked if I would have it delivered before if it comes directly to dealership. He said end of October or early Nov.

I passed on PCD

Wife and I are going down for the new car purchase experience on Friday. Will be interesting to see if we get funny looks with wife being 4mo pregnant. I did inquire about limitations, and they said all is good because you drive at own pace. Will get another one with the CS. It's only two hours though. Trying to convince wife to do a 2day m-school with me. Baby steps.

Solid news on delivery date

I've done 3 PCD's over the years and they are fun but not worth waiting another month for my car.

I agree. I think you made the right choice.

I'm PCD on Dec 3rd, I guess it adds a bit of delay, otherwise I have to pick it up in Lincoln NE, and go to GA, no thank you.

If you haven't done a PCD it's fun. Normally you get some time on track in a similar car(never a manual) and do some drills. You also normally get a hot lap or two with one of their drivers, time on wet skid pad, factory tour and even a X5 trip over their trail. All with a nice lunch and overnight at hotel.

Not sure what they aren't doing now because of Covid. No factory tours I know.

Other advantage is you know your car won't be test driven by some ham-fisted BMW Tech at the local dealership.

Yup, first time!

As of now, no factory tours which is a bummer.

Just got back from our new owners session at the performance center. It was fun. We got to traverse their small off-road course in an x5. It wasn't too extreme, but way more than I would have thought to attempt in my x5.

The highlights were the ability to drive multiple vehicles. X5, x5m, m2, m4, and m8 comp. Then get a hot lap ride on the small course (drifting fun).

There was some drizzle this morning so the course was wet. I was very impressed by the handling and breaking ability. It surpassed my perceived capability of these cars in a wet environment. Only 3 laps per person per car.

Cabin quality: the x5 is hands down the best place to be in the available BMWs. The mesaging seats while lapping didn't hurt. M8 felt fine. The M4 felt dated in a bad way. M2, damn, I hope I didn't make a mistake buying a CS. At least the m2 felt like old in a similar fashion that the last GT3 I drove felt. M5 was really lackluster. I expected a more high end feel.

Driving

X5m is really impressive because of how well it can be thrown around for it's size. I'm not really sure why anyone would buy one as it seems kinda pointless. High performance suvs just don't make sense to me. The x40i is a little underpowered at higher speeds, so I could see the 50i being a happy place for my style.

M8c super quick but gigantic. M2 seemed like it had more rear leg room. Interior was nice, but no wow factor. At least not in whatever this was specced. Didn't like the brake feel of ccb on this one. Felt better on the M4.

M4. kinda surprised me. It felt smaller than I expected. CCB brakes felt good, but not amazing. DCT was really good in manual with paddles. Significant difference between this and zf8. In auto mode it was horrible, but was not in sport +.

M2 had "character" noises that made if feel like a good engine wrapped in a POS. I felt the same about the GT3 I drove at a different track event. However, it was the only one that felt like the movements were completely anticipated. It really felt like a glove. This is also the same feeling I got with the GT3. This is good considering it's my first drive ever in an M2 and I have a CS on order. I also think that if the track is the primary focus, then DCT is the way to go. Super fun to not worry about shifting gears. Just pull the paddle when ready.

There is no denying that the interior updates of the G series are leaps beyond the F series. The M2CS is going to be a great drivers car, but I'm not sure that the "old school" vibe won't become just old after some time in the seat. Especially when the nicities of the G series are available. If the G87 is basically an m2comp with an x5 interior, then that would be a really nice combo.

How is the PCD spec'd on the CS? Is it a cost option that is added to the purchase price of the vehicle? Like you, I would rather go to SC to pick up mine, but the dealership didn't mention it as an option when I was configuring the car.

It is included with the delivery fee that you pay. Meaning it is no extra cost for you, either drop it off at the dealership, or drop it off and pick up at PCD.

Thanks. Alexandria's sales rep says it's not currently available, but I'll confirm via other channels.

So just think about what they are telling you.

Not available but numerous people here know about it and there are members actually doing PCD.

The store could be pulling a "local" customer only nonsense and refusing to set up PCD. That may be the case.

Tentatively scheduled for 12/16. Still debating as this would delay the delivery. Would be my second PCD as I picked up my F80 in 2018.

Production week 45 (11/01 - 11/07). Emailed with someone super helpful from the Performance Center today.

They need to know by 11/13 if I'd like PCD, assuming the car will be loaded in Bremerhaven the following week.
Week 45 qualifies for PCD between Jan 8th and 29th (way too long to wait).

Looks like she'll be sailing on either the Wallenius Freedom (departs 11/19) or Patriot (departs 11/20) arriving in Galveston 12/12 or 12/10. https://www.walleniuswilhelmsen.com/schedules

But what do I know

I'm scheduled for same week and in Houston so will most likely be on same ship.
