Where's a good place to get 12v behind the head unit?
Looking to install a wireless backup camera receiver and I need 12v behind the head unit and from the reverse lights. Finding 12v from the reverse light should be easy enough once I can figure out how to get the light out but I'm not sure about behind the head unit.
Trying to tap into the head unit power seems like a bad idea, radio equipment can be pretty picky about its power source so I was thinking the climate control power. Does anyone know what pins I would be looking for to splice into? Or a better option? Thanks |

Just tap the red(+green?) 12V wire going into the headunit. It's your best bet. Check out the $130 DIY backup cam thread for details in the Nav/ConnectedDrive forum.

If you want to be sure, just tap off the fuse box behind the glove box. You can use a piggyback fuse. You can reference the chart that is literally on the opposite side of your glove box rear panel.
You rear camera can tap off the same wiring to the lights. If it needs decent power you may have to run a relay with the reverse light as a trigger and taking constant straight off the battery. Search for reverse cam in this area of the forum. We've discussed the setup a few times. I'd point you but I can't seem to find my bookmark on it. Try this one out...its not the one I'm thinking of, but has similar info: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...camera+install |
