AWD?

What is everyone's guess that the AWD and the convertible will add to these costs?

AWD should be somewhere between $3k - $5k.

You need to try an RWD car with winter tires. My G80 was just fine in Michigan and Wisconsin and I can't imagine this would be out of place in the snow either.

AWD will be available in 6-8 months though if you really do want it

Does everyone really think the AWD will be all that and a bag of chips? Or, people think the 500hp RWD will be too much like the early F80's getting twitchy?

I need 4 doors and some creature comforts sooner rather than later (hence, not sure if I can wait for AWD).

I agree.

RWD can work just fine in snowy conditions as long as you put a good set of winter tires on (which you'd be doing anyways even if you got the xDrive model since it comes with summer tires). Plus with RWD you get the bonus of (hopefully) more steering feel because the front tires aren't doing double duty.

The following quote is from Car and Driver's long-term test of their 2020 M340i (RWD):

"Our winter has been mild, but the OE-sized Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 performance rubber purchased from the Tire Rack function adequately when the white gold falls from the sky. With those tires underfoot, we haven't had any regrets about forgoing the $1860 all-wheel-drive option."

Nuts!

I'll be 50 next year and have always lived in the northeast. I drive ~30k miles a year; never owned a car with AWD; and I never run snow tires. If I got away doing this with crap tires on a 79 Oldsmobile, you can do it on a car with proper tires and modern safety systems.
