Brake Fluid Change Interval
Hey
Do you peoples know what is the time interval for changing brake fluid on a X3 M40i with M sports brakes? I've read that BMW have extended the period from 2 to 3 years now. I notice the Connected Drive app lists it as being due at 3 year mark also. Appreciate any guidance you could give. |

Im pretty sure BMW would err on the side of caution and want you to change the fluid as often as possible, more money for their service centres, they wouldn't make a schedule that would risk any damage to the brake system, so if they say 3 years thats good for me.
Does the car adjust the interval according to driving style as with oil changes.? |

It was 3 years on my previous M135i and M235i and it’s not condition based, i.e. the service interval doesn’t change depending on how the car is driven.

They could care less after it’s past the warranty. You will notice many people change the oil before the bmw interval. Issues running oil too long usually don’t show up while still covered by the warranty. |

Just had my 2 year 'Brake Fluid' change done...G01 XLine 2.0d NEW Feb 2018
I imagine it may have been done on my first service as the system informed me it was now due again Dec 2020. I was informed it's set up again on the system for 2 years time Dec 2022 |

Thanks for the replies.
I believe they have changed it to 3 years because of a new blend of brake oil they use now and also because of BMW Service Inclusive - ie, they paying for it in the first 3 to 5 years depending upon your package. |

First of all, I read somewhere that the three-year rule doesn’t apply to M cars, Which I can confirm is wrong.
I picked up my 2019 M2C in July 2018 and the guideline you posted matches my situation. My initial interval was set for three years, and I just went in to have it done, and I see the next one they have set is two years away. I don’t understand how that makes sense? Either they have decided the fluid is OK for three years or it’s still two years like before. Do you have any links to this guideline or to any documentation on the change from two years right from the beginnig? |

The cynic in me says they moved from 2-2-2... to 3-2-2... so that they're only responsible for one fluid flush under than initial 4 year service period...

A 3-2-2 interval is typical for German cars. With all cars I had in the past years the intervall has allways been 3-2-2 for the brake fluid no matter if it was VW, Audi or BMW.
The reason is, that the factory fills up an empty system but when you change it after 3 years there is allways some old fluid left which mixes with the new fluid. |
