I need new tires

I have a 2006 3.0i and need to replace my stock tires. My fronts are 225/45/R17 and rears are 255/40/R17. I live in the south so cold weather performance is not an issue.

What do you recommend? Can I go to 265's on the rear?

i just got General Exclaim UHPs ... if you can get beyond the 'name/label'... they are a great tire and an incredible value....

I haven't had any issues with my General Exclaims. I think they are a pretty capable tire for day to day usage. I wouldn't dare use them on the track, but you can definitely get away with a bit of spirited driving on them.

BTW, I've got a set of non-rft tires for sale in the Classifieds section:

Sorry for that shameless plug... just wanna move product.

Did you place 255 on the 8 x 17" standard rim?

Does that fit?

Based on online reviews and feedback from owners, I have narrowed it down to 3 choices.

Yokohama S Drive
BF Goodrich g Force Sport
General Exclaim UHP

Part of it depends on how you use the car, and what your expectations are.

I'm now a big fan of Dunlop Direzza, for grippy streetable tires that spend a far amount of time at autox events. My friend who is consistantly fast in his E46 M3 replaced some worn PS2s with the General Exclaim UHP, and instead of his normal 1st place in class he was 3rd. So for all out grip, from a street tire, the General's just aren't up to par.

I also went to a Yok tech event, and they said the Advan Sport, which is one performance level up from the S Drive is on par with the PS2. I put them on my 5 series, and they are not on par with PS2. My DSC light comes on a lot more now with the Advan Sports. And if Yok says they are a step up from the S Drive, I'd hate to see how often my DSC light would come on with the S Drive. Now in a lighter, less powerful car, the results may be a little different.

This is a second car for me that I drive when the weather permits. I enjoy occasional "spirited" driving but the car NEVER sees any track time.

im thinking about the advan sport tires from yoko when i finally get my rims. I heard fairly good things. not as pricey as PS2s thats for sure. I heard the gen exclaims were just mediocre. just my two cents. Im a big fan contisportcontacts (have them on my MB), at least here in the northeast, considering they do fairly well in the wet too for a RWD car.

I love how I ask people their opinion on 3 tires, and I get other suggestions. I appreciate what everyone thinks are the best tires, but they are not all in my budget. Again, this is a second "cruising" car, not a tract or ricer racer. If that were important to me, I would have purchased an M.

I ended up going with the Yoko's. They were only $575 out the door! What a difference between RFTs and non-RFTs. I will give a full review once I get them broken in.

We have a winner

Of course I have a set (unmounted w/about 3,000 miles) of Dunlop SP Sport 9000s I would have given him for free if he paid for shipping.
