What options/features are not available for the base model?

What are all the features you lose with the MT? I know dynamic cruise control is one. Remote start is another.

After seeing the car in person – I’m more disappointed and more confused in the choice to go manual M3
Manual or auto is a good debate in everyone’s mind now and not only because it’s 2021. It’s the first time they take away HP and torque and don’ t have extra charge for DCT/auto

One buying this car has to go through the same thought process- for the same 80 K if I want the manual I have to forego the following:
Usual Auto advantages:
- Ability for everyone in the family to drive it
- Ease of traffic driving
- Nothing to brake/wear out in the manual box – no burnt clutches
- No money shift risks /blown engines
- 6 gears vs 8 gears thus less fuel economy
- Taller gears thus less flexibility in tight tracks
- Faster shift speed for auto
Convenience/Performance Auto features not available in manual
- Remote Start
- Launch control
- Autonomous driving
- Lane keep assist/lane change assist
- Parking assist
- Self-parking
More so – Possibility of future software/feature updates
- Based on current regulations – better full self-driving in traffic
- Summoning the car to roll to you
- Remote parking
Biggest bummer
- Less power
- Less torque
- No design/R&D put into new gearbox/clutch thus killing the possibility of safely tuning existing engine with gearbox/clutch limitations
- - No AWD option with manual

(I know one can persuade themselves those are not important features, but the possibility of having them is still there)
After all of the above – I’m still thinking of the manual option for the track use – since for that application it is still the simplest and most reliable tech that’s proven to work. Plus some of the sentimental advantages
- More involvement/ connection to the car
- More fun
- Bragging rights for some –being one of the few who can still drive that
- Not losing skills that one worked on for years – hill/toe and left foot work
- Pulling at straws here, anything else?
But for the rest of the time using the car – the list keeps growing and it’s not towards manual favor – of course the looks of the car do not help either.
So I keep asking myself – why do I need to persuade myself to be excited about an 80K car. After $1000+ a month payments I have to talk myself into liking it and persuade people who ask about it - that looks don’t matter and less performance is still more fun.

When I compared the two back in October, this is what I found:

Ilyam5 - good list.

Your point about all family members being able to drive auto is important. Personally I prefer a manual. Have driven one for 29 years before getting my current M340xdrive, and while I love my current car it has confirmed that manuals are more fun. However, when I get an M3 I will (unfortunately) occasionally need to have my wife drive it, and she can't drive stick. That and the lower power pushes me to the M3Comp with auto. I know I could mod a manual M3 to get even more power and torque than the Comp, but I lease so I won't do that. I'm approaching 50yrs, and buying two autos in a row seems to confirm that I am getting old!

My Girlfriend can drive manual and my cat runs from every car so no problem.

Have fun replacing an auto gearbox when this is worn. then you will prefer the manual.

Auto in manual mode wont shift by itself so you can blow that pretty easy too. Just normal brain usage

really? buy a 500hp car that costs a ton of money and people talk about fuel economy?

this is true, still much more fun

yes...but since decades nobody buys a MT to be faster. MT buyer know it is slower, and usually they don't give a f***

Ok point for auto, but I don't like give up the control so I never used it, even when it was available. personal preference I guess

The system you might need (camera, sensors, emergency brake) are included in the MT too. and if you can't park you buy the wrong car...my opinion

Why wouldn't you get software updates for the MT too?

Basically all the points made for auto transmission, self driving, self parking etc... just buy tesla then why get m3/m4? If you want a computer to do everything you might as well do 0-60 in 2 seconds.

The m3 is for the passionate driver who wants to heel toe 5th down to 3rd in a corner on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Not some autonomous appliance driver who wants the ease of going from point A to B.

Ilyam5 brings up excellent points.

My biggest issue right now is the fact that my family couldn't drive a manual to save their lives. I'm rusty as hell too, but I can relearn pretty quickly and learn as I go along.
