Parking Assistance Package - everyone orders it?

I'm building a base M3 6MT and am wondering if the Parking Assistance Package is worth it. It's a low cost option, but I know I will never use the "have the car park itself" technology. I have it in my wife's X5 and never use it, so would never use it an M3. Not interested in the Drive Recorder either, personally.

Am I missing anything here? I believe you still get park distance control standard, without ticking PAP.

Interested to hear what everyone else is doing. Thanks!!

I got it for the surround cameras. I don't use the self parking feature.

I grew up in a major city on the east coast and parallel parking runs through my veins. BUT still...on the off chance I have to put my car in that situation (people can't parallel park in SoCal and freely slam bumpers) the cameras/sensors do come in handy to keep you away from others bumpers.

Same here!
IMO the soround view and other camera options you get with it is already worth it, don't care about self parking feature...

This is why I asked Thanks all! I wasn't thinking about the surround view cameras. I do find them useful, so will add the package in based on that

Once you let the car start parallel parking itself it's hard to go back. Not that I can't do it, but it does it first time every time and gets way closer to the curb safely than I'd dare get those wheels.

Interesting. I disagree, I always find it to be more work to have the car recognize the spot, line it up, then start the auto parking. Personal preference I suppose

I have it on M340i but don't have it on X3M. I will get it on G82 whenever I order but it's something I can live without. You still get front and rear sensors, rear view camera, and cross traffic alert for backing up as standard if you don't add the package.

I opted for it like the others because of the sorround view cameras.

But I thought the 6MT has not the autoparking feature?
I mean, how can it possibly do it?

I went back and forth a lot. I have a Q7 with it, and like the feature, mainly for the 360 camera, but it's also a much bigger car. The surround camera, and being able to see if you're inside the lines in a given parking space, is super convenient, but I also tend to park in the furthest possible spot hundreds of yards from the nearest car anyway. Ultimately I decided I needed to stop spending money though so didn't add it...

In my experience, being able to parallel park is like being some kind wizard in other people’s view. Not sure why, but I don’t mind being thought of as a wizard. 😀

Actually, mostly I just didn’t want to pay for it. 😂

LOL. Yeah, unlike today where just being able to walk and talk at the same time will get you a license, when I got my DL (YEARS ago), you actually had to demonstrate your ability to someone that WOULD fail you, and pass a real test!

I'll never have the car park for me but the multiple cameras and recorder options were appealing so I ticked the box.

I CAN parallel park on my own and I CAN turn around and look and see what's behind me and use the mirrors, but easier to let the car do it if it can and easier to use the car's cameras to see what's behind me. Technology for the win.

Like a lot of others, I ordered it specifically for the surround view cameras. No interest in trying to let a manual transmission car park itself.

On the manual, it just steers and tells you when to shift. It cannot shift or work the clutch or gas.

I have it on my 340 and never use it.

Once I figured out how to use the self parking feature I actually like it a lot. It's "braver" than me, as far as squeezing into spots I would otherwise pass up. But it also does that because it isn't afraid to dry steer, which I don't like doing.

But more so, the surround cameras are key, and I'm really looking forward to the drive recorder to essentially have built in dashcams.

Only thing to know on the drive recorder is that the time is really limited, something like 40 seconds (although it will automatically record 20 seconds before/after a crash, not sure how well that works). If it was something like sentry mode on a Tesla and you could use it to fully record a drive that would be awesome.

Don't quote me on this but I think you can already do that with the m track app with or without the parking assistance pack

The surround view cameras would be nice when parallel parking, but that's about it. Since I don't parallel park all that often, and I'm pretty good at it, I'll likely pass on this. The rear camera and front/rear sensors will do me just fine.

Can anyone tell me how low of an obstacle the sensors can detect? I plan on lowering my car with a lip and unfortunately I couldn’t get the parking assistance package that has the front camera. Can the sensors detect something like a curb or those annoying front parking blocks?

Seems like they can. I [almost] backed into a parking space block yesterday and the alarms starting howling. It was low enough that the exhaust would have cleared anyway though
