European delivery gone forever?

This may have been asked a million times, but does anyone know if European delivery will ever come back? Or is gone forever?

Sounds permanent. Here's the quote:

"After carefully evaluating the changing BMW U.S. customer preferences towards U.S.-built X vehicles and the declining interest in the European Delivery Program, BMW has made the decision to bring the European Delivery Program to a close in the Fall of 2020," says a BMW Spokesperson

Really sad if you ask me. Never got to experience it, but I can only imagine it was awesome.

Part of that declining interest was affected by BMW decreasing the discount from 7% to 5%. It didn't deter me, but I think it did for some people. I'd have done it for no discount. Also, the world's shift to SUVs, which are made here and can't ED them. I'm glad I got my 4 times doing it. As I always told people, once you go to Munich to pick up your car it makes just going to the dealer seem so mundane. PCD is going to have to be my very poor man's ED from now on. It's a great experience, but it's definitely no ED.

excuse me the question:

is there any difference beside the (in the US) missing OPF?
I mean, in this case the US Version is better

Let’s see when COVID is over with. Euro delivery really is something special. I remember each one of them vividly. We go to Europe for a month or two every year but picking up a new car and driving it fresh from the paint shop on some of the best driving roads to some of world’s most premier vacation spots never gets old. It’s a very serious downgrade to my personal BMW journey if it doesn’t return. Having your customers first weeks of ownership connected to such epic memories is the best marketing tool there is.

Is this related to European delivery? If so, you get a US spec car. You just take ownership (and can drive it around) before it gets on a ship. When you're ready to go home, you drop it off and it gets shipped to the us.

I've done it 3 times and it was special each time. Both cars in my signature were Euro Delivery (as was a 2003 ZHP sedan in Imola). Spent a lot of euros in Germany each time too! Missed opportunity for developing and keeping loyalty.

As much as I do actually like the cars, European delivery definitely helped keep me brand loyal from the beginning. I was ready to go get a redesigned C63 AMG coupe to avoid the new grilles until Mercedes decided not to bring the coupe to the US. There was at least a small part of that desire that was because Mercedes was still doing European delivery.

I would love to do it for my M3 but, of course, that's not an option. I'm doing PCD as of now unless something changes

aaah oops, sorry I thought people here mean with "european delivery" that they want the EU specced car.

Now I got it thanks for the clarification !

Did you ever do it? If not that maybe why you don't understand. Probably better to have ignorance is bliss at this point. You don't know what you're missing. That or if you are just not one to like traveling.

It's hard to appreciate if you haven't done it. The anticipation of flying over to get it. The experience at the Welt is magical. It's so well done. Check in. Taking the elevator up to the premium lounge. Eating the perfectly laid out food up in the lounge, the tech presentation of the car, walking down the stairs to see it spinning with the light on it after had already scoped it out when you first got there. Watching other people get their deliveries from the viewing platform. Really too much of an experience to put into words. I think it's just something in the air in the Welt. I went back a few extra times just to walk around and take it all in. Then, you get to take a vacation in Europe with YOUR car. Going 140 on the autobahn. Taking a few laps on the Nurburgring. Just everything. Again, too much to try and encapsulate in a brief paragraph. The only part that sucked was dropping it off and waiting a month for it to get back to you. But if you don't enjoy traveling then it probably wouldn't have been for you anyway. I might even pay a little extra for the experience.

Well, after living for 22 years in Munich I have done everything besides picking up my car at the Welt.

I do enjoy traveling, been to Thailand, Africa etc.

However I'm too lazy to get my toilet paper in the store so would never pickup my car overseas...lol

Glad you like it that much, Bavaria can be nice during summer time.

you could have just prefaced your question with, I lived in Munich for 22 years. Would have made the whole discussion much easier.

I was really curious what makes people "pickup" their cars overseas.

Thanks for explaining!

As for my part I don't even want to see the dealership for my next car.
