Laser headlight retrofit
Hi all,
I want to retrofit laser headlights on my G20 M340i. I have the high beam assist. Im looking to buy used headlights as they are cheaper. Would it simply be a plug and play fit? Some are also missing 'ballast', what is that, and can I use the ones from my current headlights? |

From previous discussions on the forum it seems yes...to a degree it looks like the wiring is near identical and you would need to code them to work properly.
The 'ballast' if I'm not mistaken is the actual control unit for the lights and I couldn't say with any degree of certainty if your old would work with new but I'd err on the side of not. |

Ballast is a misnomer- this was the unit in HID lights (xenon lights) that generated the high-tension voltage. LED lights do not have these and seems to be used as the name for the control unit.

I suspect the Laser control units will be different to the standard LED and will need to be coded in to the car.
Probably a bit of VO coding to change 5A4 to whatever Lasers are plus other Esys witchcraft

What about going from Base LED headlamps to 'Laserlight' or 'LED headlights with extended features'? I don't have even High Beam Assist but in my car there's traffic signs recognition and adaptive cruise control so there should already be some kind of camera capable of adding that feature. Anything else besides lamps and their modules I need to get for that retrofit?
