Processing/Documents Fees

Is there set dollar amount that I should expect to be charged for this?

The reason for asking is that I initially worked out a deal and on the Purchase Agreement and the Proc/Doc Fees were $250. I then changed up the order, got an allocation and a production number on Monday. The GM, who I was working with, had another salesperson write iup the PA for me and now the Proc/Doc Fees were $849! I emailed the GM asking what the increase was for, he responded back and now the fees are $549.

Should this really be that hard to know what these fees are? Are they an industry secret? Typically this dealer rolls in a ($299) add on for a product called “M Protect”, which is some kind of paint protection product I don’t want.

The fees are for their profit margin. Just refuse to pay it. Call their bluff

This is on top of the $950 delivery fee? That finance guy can't have to do too much paperwork since I refuse all of his paint protection, wheel warranty, etc stuff.

The last time I paid $80. It was under $100 so I didn't fight it.

Each state's government fees (i.e. registration fee, title fee, and plates) will be different, so it would only make sense to compare your cost with other people who are registering the car in the same state as you.

Second, the dealer "admin fees" is the other component. This admin fee covers the paperwork an processing--and I'm sure there is some padding for profit.

Now, some state's set a cap that the dealership cannot exceed while other states don't have a cap. I've read about (and another poster noted) that FL fees are quite high nearing $1000 while other states are very low. I would say the governments fees are non-negotiable, but perhaps the dealer admin fees are something that you can request a discount for?
