This board needs a tracking thread

There are tracking instructions and comments to share on other sub-forums and I think the procedures for G80/G82 are different. I believe they are made in 2 factories: Dingolfing for M4 and Munich for M3. They would come to Bremerhaven to go out, probably on different trains.

The last time I dealt with this was for an F30 so a lot more was being made in Munich. It was my experience that most or all the cars went out on WWL carriers but that was only my experience. There were 2 departures per month that went to the west coast, but someone else would know more about east coast stuff.

Now, there seem to be 2 WWL ships per month and some number of NYK ships. As far as I know, there is no way now to tell when cars clear customs and are released by the carrier. WWL tracking used to be available by VIN, but now you need cargo ID or Bill of Lading number for WWL. That info seems unavailable. I don't know about KYN

This is the one from the F80 section:

Not sure how much different it is between the F80 and G80 as well as how much COVID is effecting things.

I expect it is very different. At that time, the F80 was built in Regensburg with the F33 and F83, and the F82 was built in Munich with the F30 and F32. Now, the G80 is made in Munich with the G20, and the G82 (and soon the G83) is made in Dingolfing with the G22 and G23.

Can't imagine there being any difference with tracking, at least not at our level... what we can see. Dingolfing is only about an hour south of Regensburg, same distance northeast of Munich. They have full rail facilities right into the factory. Whether it takes a train from one or the other, time to Bremerhaven will be about the same. It's when it gets to the port, waiting to get on the ship is where it gets more interesting, but once there, the process won't be different just because the car originated in Dingolfing. Unless there's an unexpected issue or shortage at one factory, overall status and timeframes will be about the same.

How do you think that affects end delivery or tracking though?

They can give you the actual dates. They told me mine will be done with all the assembly stages on the 23rd while My BMW garage seems to be a couple of days behind.

Oh wow, ok. I'll definitely have to give them a call then. They seemed surprisingly not genius like last time I called them. I asked them several questions to which they told me I should ask my CA for the answer.

They used to build a lot more cars in Munich. (all the F30s) Now, a larger percentage of the cars ship on NYK (rather than WWL) and NYK uses seems to use substantially smaller ships. I really don't know how that affects port wait time.
