Inventory on cars.com

I just did a quick search on Cars.com and I was surprised by how much inventory there is. Looks like no mark ups either.

Odd compared to other new M3 roll outs.

It can be misleading. My dealership had my car on their site for almost two weeks after I signed the papers.

Not at all. The same was true at the E90/E92 M3 and F80/F82 launch. In both cases I was able to find plenty of inventory (or allocations) to select from in the early days of production, and I was able to purchase at a discount.

Here's what we are definitely not going to do though: we definitely are not going to start a BS argument that the G8x is a failure because "Hey, look at all the unsold inventory out there." Sound good? Great. Have a good discussion and good day.

As someone else says, a bunch of those will actually be sold, and a bunch of others will have a mark-up that cars.com isn't picking up

Don't buy into the hype. This is not a limited production vehicle. Despite the buzz on an enthusiast forum, demand is still fairly limited for an $80K 3 series. 6 months from now, this car is 10% off MSRP all day long + incentives.

OP wasn't even subtle! lol

My dealership is sold out on the G80 (both models) for 6 months and on the G82 (both models) for 4 months. High volume dealership, and basically the same situation as the F80 and F82.

They have 11 deposits for AWD G80s and G82s combined. I asked. I was curious.

Yeah the line at my dealership is in the double digits for the awd now

So every M3 release ever.

Thank you for your insight.

Wow, that's crazy, so if you join the line now you're unlikely to see your car before the start of 2022

I see 10 total in ALL of Southern California. And I bet other major markets are probably equally as dry.

Out of the 10 in Socal, 8 are "Not Priced" or cars with generic placeholder pictures which indicate they are most likely incoming customer cars. Once entered into inventory they get automatically posted to cars.com (and other sites) by their DMS's integration. 2 of them have pictures which indicate they've been sitting for longer than a day. Both at South Bay BMW.

As I impatiently wait for my AWD allocation I've inquired about a few RWD at my local (Sterling) and they're sold despite what the site says.

I expect some will cancel and they will most likely get a decent amount of allocations, so maybe not as bad as it sounds.

I got super lucky with mine, had an order in for a week 15 6MT build, and then my dealer called to let me know someone pulled out of their HEA car so I could jump on it if I wanted. He found out about it early, and I was really quick to the punch, but even so me and someone else said "yes" at basically the exact same time and there was an argument about who actually got it. It never even made it online. My existing order was then reallocated to someone else who was waiting almost immediately. There are cars around, but they're definitely not thick on the ground. Same with the M2C, it's rare for those to linger in CA from what I've seen

Not trying to stir the pot. I was just surprised. I certainly didn't check if these were old or bogus listings.

I'm not in the market for a new M car yet, but I've owned 8 and it always seems to be a frenzy with first ones. People selling their spots in line and dealer mark ups etc.

I'll definitely get a G80 when I'm ready. Seeing one in person, I think it looks great and makes the F80 look like a "classic" BMW.

I'm enjoying my F80 zhp 6 speed.

Yep dealers get dangerously close to bait and switch-y with those cars.com type listings. They leave up a bunch of listings for reasonably priced cars that they may have just sold to get you in the door to order one. It may not be intentional I doubt they have someone frantically updating all those sites when they sell something lol but that seems like the way it works out

Don't understand the need to get these cars so soon, these are not Porsche GT3 cars just wait and you can buy these cars at 5 to 10 % off MSRP in a 3 to 6 months same applies to the XDrive when it comes out.

Wrong, maybe 4 or 5 % discount from dealer at most and only $500 to $1000 incentive from BMW, you can't compare an M car to the M340 which does have 8% plus $2500 incentive.

Lol regarding inventory. The car just arrived. By the end of the summer allocations will be plenty providing there is no chip shortage.

BMW does not hold back on building these cars. My last M4 was 11% off and my M5 was something around 16% ($125K list and $104K cap cost with incentives). There will be solid discounts at some point in 2021.
