Question Has anyone done PCD yet?

My car is on its way to the port from the factory. Waiting to schedule my PCD. Has anyone here done one yet on a G8x? Might even be interesting to have some type of calendar in case any of us are there the same day.

Last time I did a ED to PCD followed by 2 day M school the day after. Since there is no more ED, PCD is the next best thing although the drive back from SC isn't quite the same as driving in Europe. I'm going to pass on the $4k M school this time around.

Side note edit: The Genius told me that the PCD can't be scheduled until the car is actually at the PC.

My M3 Comp is in quality check now so hopefully moving on soon. Three vehicle ships are coming in to today and tomorrow. PCD hopefully in May.

You should have already discussed pcd with your dealer. Then the dealer speaks with pcd and you provide 3 dates that would work for you within a range that pcd gives the dealer.

Yea, I talked with them about it months ago. He said he just submitted the info today. I think I'm going to get a much faster answer if I just call the PC myself and ask vs trying to wait for my CA to do it. He said he always has a lot of frustration dealing with them and ED was a much easier process for him.

I have PCD scheduled for 4/28 for my G80 (currently mid voyage). I've also done it in the past.

Dealer submits info at any point before car is at port but PCD only reaches out to dealer giving them a date once the car is on/assigned a vessel. From then it's usually 30-45 days later.

Not sure what the "genius" you spoke to was on about....

I've had mixed luck with the "Geniuses". I wasn't impressed the first time as her response to pretty much every question I had was that I had to ask my CA for that answer. The second one a few weeks later tried hard, got some info and seemed like she knew what she was talking about. The one today wasn't too impressive.

I emailed the Performance Center last night with regards to scheduling and this was their response:

Reservations for the Performance Center Delivery Experience can be scheduled as soon as you have a production number. All of the scheduling will need to be coordinated through your Client Advisor, so they will need to submit a reservation request ASAP. The reservation process takes a couple of business days to complete, so it would be advisable to go ahead and ask them to begin that process now so we can save your spot.

They are partially correct in the information they gave you, the vehicle does need to be on its way to the US in order to be able to schedule your actual delivery date. While we understand your (justified) excitement, this is the part that's going to require a bit of patience. Shipping a vehicle is a lengthy process, and COVID hasn't done us any favors in that aspect. The process to get a vehicle stateside, through customs, through the VPC and actually delivered here to the Performance Center (just like a dealership would be) can take several weeks from the time the vehicle has completed production.

The PCD sends a couple of hours with you and a Car like you purchased with a few laps around the track and skid pad. Then time in a X5 or other vehicles to expose you to other BMW models on their off road track there, and maybe a Mini. Museum and plant tour, lunch and your done. This was explained to me this past weekend during the M School class.

I had a tentative date way before shipping. I'd call the Performance Center and research a date. If you want the soonest available date they will not confirm anything until the car is being shipped aboard the vessel. They also told me that if you really want your car soonest then have it sent to your dealer. The reason is that they have a limited number of people that can process your car for delivery, and they can only do a limited number a week. The dealers doesn't have the same volume most likely. You might be able to get a 101 certificate that will allow you to take receipt of your car locally and enjoy the benefits of a performance delivery at a later date.

By the way, the info I received from the performance center was that for a week 18 build, PC scheduling would likely be between July 9 thru August 6th.

If that's the case, it seems like way too long of a difference between PC delivery vs dealership delivery

So, week 13 is May 3rd which puts PCD 2-3 months out.

Mine finished March 29th, currently stuck at port waiting on a ship. I was hoping for a late April/early May PCD, but perhaps that will be unrealistic with what BMW says is delayed shipping times and then perhaps some backlog at the PC. I'd really love to have the PCD experience again, and last time I did it the factory was closed for retooling for the X7 so I'd love to get the factory tour and then the long test drive home. However, if it's going to add 1-2 months to my delivery time that might make me reconsider.

I'm in the same situation, but with a week 17 build. That's awful, no way I'm giving up most of the driving season here on the east coat to wait out delivery down south.

Does anyone happen to know if I'm scheduled for PCD how late in this process I can opt to change that back to just shipping the car to my local dealer?

I was wondering the same thing. I REALLY want to do another PCD, but if it's going to be 2 months out vs having the car delivered to my dealer in a week or so it would certainly make me reconsider. My plan was to call the PC as soon as I see the car is on a ship and see what kind of timeframe they will give me. I'm currently 'scheduled' for a PCD, but I'm assuming/hoping that they could still reroute it if the ship is still a week out from port.

This seems ideal for me. I'd much rather just have it delivered locally, and then do the PCD on a different date...but I don't think they offer this option often.

I'd be willing to wait a few weeks extra for a PCD, but a few months? Nope, not worth it. I'll be tracking my car anyway, so I'll figure out its limits then.

I'm not going to have the car delivered to the dealer and then fly to SC at some later date for a free 1/2 day experience and then fly home. Seems like kind of a waste. If I was local, sure, but not from Ohio. And, after a PCD I get to drive my new car home.

I don't think its a few months. Based on the only member who has scheduled one so far, it was 30-45 days from when it gets on or is assigned to a boat, so maybe a few weeks longer. I think they want to give you enough notice to be able to arrange travel/vacation time, and to make sure the car will really be there and ready to go. They don't have much incentive to store a lot of BMWs on site.

Edit - Based on this time frame from the tracking thread, it looks like 20-34 days from the time it gets on a ship, so it seems like it only adds at most a couple of weeks, probably to give them some cushion so you don't show up and find out your car isn't there yet. I'm happy to wait a little longer for PCD, especially since I still enjoy driving my M2C.

"Lastly, the timelines below are general, if everything goes as planned. There could always be delays if you get stuck in customs, or if your vehicle had some damage during shipping (repaired at VPC), etc.

-Build start (150) to build finish (155): 1-2 weeks.
-Build finish (155) to Scheduled for Carrier (182): 1 day.
-Status 182 to 190 (on a train to bremerhaven):1-3 days.
-Status 190 to 193 (at port awaiting a ship): 1-2 days.
-Status 193 to 195 (on a ship): 3-5 days for east coast delivery, 5-12 days for west coast delivery (more detail on this later)
-Shipping time from Bremerhaven to East Coast: 12-17 days depending on the number of stops.
-Shipping time from Bremerhaven to West Coast: About 30 days.
-Offload at port: 1 day
-Processing through customs: 1-2 days
-Process through BMW Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) and onto a carrier: 2-5 days.
-Shipping time on carrier to Dealership: 1-4 days."

They can change the destination of your car as late as when it arrives at the VPC stateside. I did a PCD on my M5 back in 2019 and the letter they send you after you schedule the PCD states that if the vehicle has not yet arrived at the Performance Center (and still at the VPC) you can have it re-routed to your dealer at no additional cost. If it's arrived at the Performance Center they can ship it to your dealer but you will be responsible for the shipping charges.
