Question about lowering strut from top hat

On an M2C with stock suspension springs, has anyone lowered the front strut, enough to relieve all tension from the spring, using a jack as shown in this video at the 6:25 mark?

I am looking to lower the strut and relieve spring tension so I can recenter the spring and rubber spring isolator on the load bearing of my GC plates. I do not need to pivot the strut out of the fender area.

I ask because I think the car in the video has shorter aftermarket springs and have been told that the longer stock springs will remain with tension unless I remove the strut from the knuckle.

Yes, it works with stock springs too. See my video below at 7:22.
