Corner Weighed the M2 Today

I've wanted a set of corner scales for over a decade now and finally got around to picking up a set. Put my 2018 M2 LCI with Recaro Sportster CS front seats, VAC seat mounts, Recaro sliders, rear seat backs removed and an Akrapovic cat-back exhaust. The car is a manual without a sunroof and had a full tank of gas.

Weight: 3386 lbs
Distribution: 51.9% front, 48.1% rear

Weight with me in driver seat: 3557 lbs
Distribution: 51.6% front, 48.6% rear

Cool! This seems to be sort of consistent with what BMW says. I have something that says "Curb Weight" is 3593lbs. Is your lower number because of the modifications you have made? Or, is "curb weight" comparing apples and oranges? BMW also has rear weight at 48.1%.

A little subtraction also reveals you appear to weigh 171lbs.

I believe BMW lists the curb weight of a manual M2 without a sunroof at 3450lbs. I've lightened the car a bit by removing the rear seatbacks, replacing front seats and using a titanium cat back exhaust. I believe the stock front/rear bias is a bit better than what I have above from the rear seatback removal.

That's awesome. I did that to the Lotus when I first got it. 2,000 lbs on the nose.

That seems about on point with what BMW publishes. At about 6.3 lbs per gallon, half a tank means about 7-8 gallons missing. That's around 45-50 lbs. Add a few more lbs for stock wheels and you're at BMW's published weight.

Damn, that's light. I'd love to get the M2 to around 3250 without gutting it, but don't see a path below 3325'ish.

I don't even bother trying to lighten the M2, seems like a lost cause. I think it's fine as-is. The Lotus, however, is sitting at 1,846 at the moment...full of gas.

I'm really kind of done, but I'm so close to 1,799 that I have to figure something else out .

There are some easy wins to get down by about 100lbs. Under 3350 with a full tank and all creature comforts and tech, is still "light" compared to modern BMWs. But I agree with you that this is not the car to go nuts with unless you're doing an all out "race car" style track car build. At that point you want to rethink your choices and a Cayman of some sort starts becoming more attractive as a street/track car.

But, it's also easy to get obsessive with such projects

Indeed. Weren't for my 7 year old son, it'd be a Cayman for me. But I love the M2, might just keep it when I get a Cayman.

Significantly?

Edit:
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1529257

110 lb. - Swap out the wheels and 6pot front brakes, by then we're not talking about much difference. They're both M2s. Threads are not proprietary, they are open to all as far as I understand.

Don't want to make this into a pointless M2 vs M2C thread, but BMW USA lists the weight of a manual at 3600 vs 3450 for the OG.

I see a hood and an AntiGravity battery for additional loss, and an Evolution Racewerks Intercooler and KW Clubsports as weight adders.

You can't trust BMW weights. The only way to compare is to weigh two cars equipped exactly the same way in the same market. The guy that I linked to had a US M2 manual and purchased a new M2C configured exactly the same. That is about as close to a true weight comparison as you're going to get.
