The price is pretty good with a base MSRP of $66k not including the $7.5K federal tax rebate. I understand the handling will not be as good. But it can be ordered in the formerly G8x exclusive BG and FPB color choices. The dimensions are pretty much the same, except the i4 is 2" narrower. The official 0-60 time for the i4 M50 (which has standard AWD) is listed at 3.9s while the AWD G80 is listed at 3.4s.

It's interesting but if I'm going BEV in 2021-2022, Model 3P is higher on my list. Electric is highly capable and will likely exceed ICE after this gen, but fast and capable isn't necessarily fun.

I'm very comfortable with my ability to stay on top of what my car is doing in the high-3's to low-4's 0-60 range, and the usability of cars at this quickness level. I put that in there as a way of noting that I've lost almost all desire to own anything faster in a straight line...it just isn't usable enough and the acceleration experience doesn't last long enough before you're eligible for reckless driving charges. I've also ridden with someone who has no "sports car" history who bought a Model Y Performance, and that's just scary as all get out. The guy has no idea how fast he's going or the rest of the car's ability to get him out of any messes he gets himself into. These cars should not be so easily purchased. That being said, I'd love to take a Taycan for a spin...maybe it changes the game if one can afford it. I'd certainly like to test drive the i4 once it's possible to do so. |
