Sorry if this has been asked already….

I have a 2017 G30 if I purchase one of those USB CarPlay activations online will it work if I don't have the apple car play preparation package?

Does it need the wifi antenna in the car to connect to CarPlay?!
Don't want to waste money paying for it and it doesn't work.

If you don't have CarPlay prep you will need to buy a wifi antenna that will plug straight in to the back of the head unit (without it the connection will be really poor and drop out).

I got mine from Ebay for about £10 a few years back, something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth....m46890.l49286

Here's a video to help you remove the head unit.

A few tips, use hand tools. Using powered screwdrivers doesn't allow you to feel what you're doing. Often, screws get cross threaded or plastic gets cracked using these powered tools.

No need to remove the lcd screen for what you want to do.

Buy yourself a set of plastic trim removal tools. Plenty of good options on Amazon, etc.

Hardest part is climate control. Make sure to use Trim removal with microfiber towel to avoid any scratches.

Finally got round to it!!! Carplay finally installed and it's wonderful. The G31 had a software update due to ERG recall. The actual ERG replacement got triggered due my engine coolant coming. BMW replaced the ERG immediately and also gave me £100 credit note, which came in handy since the car required a rear brake pad service

All software upgrades related to ERG out of the way. I contacted bimmer-remote.com to get Carplay. Was a very easy transaction and Carplay installed withing 5 minutes! I had some trouble using Parallels, so I recommend using a Windows based machine for an very easy install. G31 feels brand new again LOL
