Wheels Studs and Spacers Installed

Hey Everyone,

So I just completed the wheel stud conversion and put on some spacers.

I went 12mm front 15mm rear. I think it looks good IMO. I tried the 18mm spacer in the rear but I think it was a little too much.

Let me know what you all think.

Rear is money, I think a 15 up front would be the move.

On my m4 have 15f/12r I'm thinking of ordering an 18mm to try up front and put the 15 out back.

Lmk if you want to sell your 18mm

first off, James thanks again for your videos--- clean, to the point, and most of all they are real.

I do have a question having done many spacer setups with BMW and including M8 right now.... why the studs? The make longer wheel bolts to work with all level of spacers and they are readily available for the G8X.

Good choice on switching to studs, makes putting the wheels back so much easier while dressing up the wheels just a tad with choice lug nuts. The stance looks great too.

I kinda like rear sticking out a little more so that is why I like 12mm for the front. We shall see once I drop the car if i still like it. After I drop the car, I plan to sell the other spacers I dont need.

Thanks Vic. So studs just make it easier to take off / put on your wheels. They also add a little bit of flash with changing the lugs. I have done it on all of my BMWs and my local shop loves it when they need to service my car lol.

Ok makes some sense, I guess I dont ever take my wheels off once I put the spacers on (or if I did for a repair it was my tech)...

Keep posting those videos my friend.

Great & informative vid. Stellar job showing all the angles after the spacer install. Just ordered 12f and 15r after watching this.

I agree with you -- always like to make the rears have a slightly wider track/poke. It just makes sense on a RWD car and it looks killer on something like m3 with flared rear fenders.

I like the stud conversion. I was tempted to go with titanium but don’t see many folks doing that.

Any reason to not go titanium other than cost?

I asked sellers of titanium kits and they told be they don't recommend them for track use and if exposed to elements like salt in the winter...

Sorry to tell you this but this stuff is all bling/show and no go

I swapped my ECS stud kit from the M2 to the M340i, I was so happy they fitted. Stud kit are like lug bolts, when they have too much wear from mounting/unmounting + heat and wear you buy new ones. With my usage Id estimate 2-3 track seasons (8-10days per year) and inspect them regularly.

Thanks for the video. I have 12/15mm spacers that I'll install after I get my car back from the dealership. They had to order parts for some factory build issues.

Rotating mass.... Ti reduces unsprung weight and rotating mass... Is it a noticeable difference or something the driver will feel NO WAY.... BUT it does help.

Nice pics/vid and build! I was debating going to Ti Studs as well.

I've heard so many horror stories of titanium bolts and studs coming loose on track I'm going with good old steel.

Hello NCG80M3 I am thinking to do the 12 and 15mm spacers like you, but would skip the studs and use the lug bolts - do you know the size (length) for the 12mm and 15mm bolts - the ones that came with your spacer? I want get a nicer set of bolts
Thanks.

Since I was doing the stud conversion I did not get longer lug bolts in my kit. My studs are 75mm tho.

Stock lug bolt is 28mm
So add spacer width to get extended lug length
I'm doing h and r 11mm throughout so 40mm extended lugs for me H and r doesn't make 39mm

ok, so 28mm + spacer size... what's +/- mm tolerance? (I assume no room for the "-" )

If I get 12mm and 15mm I would need 40mm and 43mm (ish) lug bolts, and they are M14x1.25 right?
