Looks stunning! And I'd say from reading through that they've sorted everything I didn't like on my Exige.

It is chunky.

I am sure it will be very good but I just think it is rather sad if Lotus completely turn there back on the 'Add Lightness' mantra and start filling their cars with loads of fripperies............. we have Porsche for that and just like Alpine have found recently it is very difficult to prise people away from their Caymans.

Perhaps they've realised that, like Porsche and Ferrari, they can add lightness and increase the list price for 'track specials' ?

I could see this being a very real prospect, and commercially it would make a lot of sense.

I think it's stunning, and definitely interested if they can hit that price point.

Not sure comparing it to the Alpine is fair. Whilst I loved the original, I really don't think the new one looks that good, and in this market, that matters.

Reminds me of a thread on PistonHeads a couple of days ago, regarding the MGF. Some people saying how much better the similar priced Elise was. But the Elise wasn't a usable daily car, the MG was. Despite being on sale for a shorter period of time, it outsold the Elise by almost 6 to 1.

People might like the idea of lightweight, track focused cars, but people buy usable ones.

The new Alpine gets amazing reviews and many actually prefer it as a 'Drivers' car over the Cayman. Looks are subjective.

Lotus have 'sort of' been down this route before with the Evora, it is a very impressive car, I have driven one. It failed to get people out of their 911s though and even myself as a bit of a 'Lotus Fan Boy' would not pick one over a 911. Lotus still suffer, unfairly in my view or being 'Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious' and that is going to be an issue for them.

Lets see how many on here that think it looks amazing, which it does, actually place an order in the next 12 months, I doubt Lotus 'Easy Terms' will be attractive and many will be put off by the lack of Dealers.

I hope Lotus do well with the Emira but I fear they face an uphill struggle.

There is no sustainable market for cars like Lotus having been building till now, so this is the ONLY thing they could do. The Lotus brand is much stronger than Alpine's, which does count for a lot, but I agree, it's hard to look past the Porsche offerings if you're in the market.

I like the Alpine looks, but this is proper Mini Supercar sensational looking. Like a smaller 458, which is saying something, as that for me is the best looking supercar I've seen.

I think you have hit the nail on the head.

I dont think this route is going to save them though. Time will tell and I really hope I am wrong but knowing and experiencing the 'prejudice' against lotus I have my doubts.

Are you going to order one?

I agree the Alpine has got excellent reviews, and whilst looks are subjective, I know a few people, myself included, who want an alternative to a Boxster / Cayman, but think the Alpine just doesn't look good enough. And when you are spending that kind of money on something which is largely a toy / second / third /fun car, looks are important.

I think the Evora was a bit different. Again, looks are personal, but to me it was always a bit odd, and didn't have the quality to match the price, certainly in the later years, when it got very silly.

There are always going to be a lot of people that buy a Cayman just because it is a Porsche, and there isn't anything Lotus can do about that. But this has the looks of something way more expensive, and as long as it doesn't fall apart, and drives as well as it looks, it should hopefully grab enough sales to keep them going. It's certainly on the top of my shortlist when funds allow

No, I won't be ordering one just now, but will be interested to see how the reviews are and could well be interested in the future.

I am actually in the midst of a car change this week, and the Exige has just been picked up this morning actually.
