Adaptive mode question

I have the adaptive damper setup and had the car coded to default to adaptive mode.

But it is frustrating to me that BMW doesn't let me modify adaptive mode nor does it let me select it when doing a custom setting. Am I missing something? Is there some way to select the adaptive mode in "Sport Individual"?

My understanding, Adaptive Mode is BMW's "automatic" adaptive mode. The whole idea, select and leave the 'electronics' to sense what is needed. Why would you want to change it, when you can configure the other modes to your personal preferences?

are you trying to change it from adaptive to sport individual as default because it's possible

It does what it's name is
Based upon your driving style will change throttle, steering and gearbox parameters
Note it doesn't ever set any of those features unique to eco pro such as coasting, turning off a/c

If you drive sedately along the car will be in the equivalent of comfort but if you then change to driving around twisty roads and accelerating hard it should configure itself with changes to gearbox steering and throttle response

Personally never use it as for me it felt like it was really just in comfort for my style of driving

I would like to see if I preferred the car to essentially run in sport mode (or variants thereof) but with the variable dampers instead of fixed damper settings.

Yeah, you are missing the point of Adaptive Mode, it's not meant to be customizable. You have the individual option of the other settings to tweak this.

I haven't tried Adaptive Mode much, when I do, I last about two minutes, I don't like it. There are too many modes. Comfort works for me 90% of the time and either Sport Individual or Sport Plus the other times.

Hmmm...maybe I get what you are asking. If you hammer the shit out of it in Adaptive mode, will Adaptive mode essentially adapt to Sport settings and remember you hammer it on the next start or always? The answer is still no, but I am curious if this was your hunt.

There are no fixed damper settings. If you have adaptive suspension it is, adapting all the time, according to the characteristic map of the mode chosen, (say Comfort or Sport).

We go back quite a few years to get a 'fixed' mode with adaptive suspensions.

For example, the E92 M3 had the option of EDC-K, which had two controlled (adaptive) settings, Comfort and Normal and one uncontrolled, 'fixed' damping mode, Sport.

The difference in Adaptive Mode, to the other chosen modes, the damping has a wider working 'map'. Can go from Comfort to Sport damping in real time, 'reading' sensor inputs as you drive. Drive harder, the suspension will firm up, back off, returns to a Comfort bias.

The result should be a more comfortable and controlled drive. It may challenge some users senses, as expectations are to feel the Sport settings. But look at it this way. If the suspension didn't firm up on demand, the chassis will be less controlled and possibly bouncy, as the damping will be too soft, without the wider damping map.

Even with Comfort and Sport damping, if I'm driving my car in Comfort and then drive harder, you know the damping is being challenged, flick to Sport and the chassis is more controlled. But you don't necessarily want the firmer control when you back off, or the drive is not so challenging. Enter...Adaptive Mode.

Thank you. This makes sense. BMW puts out very little information about the adaptive mode.

Yes I think could improve their explanations of many of their technologies as quite a few of them are not that clear. They reduce the wording to make it simpler but lose the detail which is what you need when describing something.
