Should I fit wider tyres?

After nearly 18K miles I think its time for a new set of rubber. As Costco have 20% off Michelin tyres at the moment I'm going to get PS2's, but I can't decide between getting the standard size zero pressure runflats, standard size non-runflats or with the money saved over runflats slightly wider 265 35 R18 rear and 235 40 R18 front tyres. It could certainly do with extra grip especially in the wet!

Any thoughts guys?

As usual the fitter told me you shouldn't fit non-runflats, it will damage the suspension etc etc.

funny you should post this today, i have just had my rears changed TODAY to 265/30/R19 from 255's. I havent even scrubbed them in yet so i cant really comment properly on the handling etc, i will let you know soon. But i do know they look a hell of a lot better, they fill come flush with the side of the car rather than being stepped in slightly.

For the fronts i have retained the 225/35/R19 size, but i imagine the 235 should be ok, as a lot of smaller engine cars have the 225s fitted as standard all round.

... definately go for the runflats , you wont regret it

Just been and ordered 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 Goodyear F1 Assymetrical tyres for my car. Used my local fitter who has done my tyres in the past, they had no problems about swapping out RFTs. Should be fitted early part on next week, so need to get them bedded in before the South West meet!!

Aren't narrower tyres better in the winter for snow? Doesn't matter to me at the moment since I have All-Seasons all around. My 255/35R18 are off now because (a) they're performance tyres that aren't supposed to be good in snow and ice and (b) the wheels don't have the TPMS sensors.

I would not like to take my car out in the snow, it's bad enough in the rain!

Doubt it, two weekends away might be pushing it with the miswah! Shame would have liked to get down.
