When I picked it up, they had another Pre-LCI M550 on the lot parked a few spaces down. I snapped a picture of both in the same lighting. I think the change is pretty dramatic and am very happy. Wallet is a little lighter, but hey, it is the little things.

Abdul at M-Power Motorsports was outstanding. Excellent customer service and follow through. Vic the coder was equally as responsive and thorough and did a few other things for me while coding (ACC default to closest).

Happy to answer any questions. I did a ton of research before doing this. Maybe too much!
How much did you pay for coding?

No clue what software he uses, but I know it's not Bimmercode. I'll try to do a video this weekend, but there are other threads with videos posted. They work as designed.

2 questions:
1) What's the coding for?
2) What is the fifth wire for?

I guess part of the above might be for the amber indicator? I'm in Australia so that is standard so might be even simpler to swap in some LCI tail lights as they look fantastic!

I'm no expert here but I'd venture to guess that since pin reassignment is required, which means the wires reassigned have a different function or purpose than before, that coding is needed to tell the module what the new assignment and functions are for each wire.

The fifth wire has to be for the separate amber blinker since it is not required on US lights and just Euro and it's the difference in the lights.

Wow, thats a huge difference. I've been on the fence due to the lack of coding support, but it looks like you guys have that figured out. Nice!

Thanks. In the end it really wasn't that complicated. Although I did not do the install, repinning and run the new wires, I could have. I basically knew how to do everything but the coding before I brought it in. If you don't want to run the wires from the BDC module you can also run a jump wire to the inner and outer tail.

Coding was simply a matter of engaging with Vic and setting up my laptop.

Yeah, I promised Abdul I would share/spread the good news and good experience. It's very easy to praise this supplier, top notch communication and customer service. Vic as well, but his reputation is outstanding. I'll use him again if I need any coding.

What shop in Boston? Also, what happens when the car is at the dealer and new SW is downloaded, will it overwrite the code changes that were needed to get the LCI lights to work?

It's a BMW retrofit that is now attached to my VIN. So when the dealer updates the software, it knows I have Euro tail retrofit. Software updates will include this configuration.

Bavarian Performance Group. Winchester.

So this was my biggest fear, so Vic's software coding assigns this as well?

Vic's software does not because it's hacked BMW software but my shop pays for it and realized after the fact that he could have done the coding with his BMW software and it would have registered it to the VIN. He told me I simply had to tell the dealer I have a Euro retrofit if they were updating the BDC module and from there on out any future updates to my car would know my set up. He said if for some reason I didn't not tell them up front, he could code it and it would register to the VIN. But basically he said tell the dealer before any updates and from there on out the car and VIN would be recognized as a Euro retro fit. I'll get more clarity next week from my shop.

Does anyone know what software version is needed for this retro fit. I have a 2018, I believe the software has not been updated in quite some time. Need to know before I take the leap. Thanks

I have a 2018 and didnt update anything. It requires a coder to code them to work correctly after install. Install requires repinning of the wires in the connector.

Take the leap! You wont regret it.

Hey Joe,
Thanks for your post. Do you know the difference between the euro-spec LCI and the North America LCI lights?

I followed your lead with the MPower euro-spec, and they arrived last week…just prior to setting up the install I realized there was a NA version of the lights available on MPower too. I’m in a 2018 540i here in the U.S.

Sounds like euro-spec worked out great for you, but just wondering if you knew the differences. Hopefully I didn’t buy the wrong ones lol🤞

From what I understand and others will correct me is that the courtesy/convenience lights do not work with US spec but do with Euro. Also Euro spec has amber signals.

I took the plunge also on the euro so i did not lose any functions. Hope I made the right choice also.

You picked the right ones. Euro's are fully functional in US cars, whereas the US spec Welcome Lights do not work and throw codes if you don't disable in iDrive.

The only extra step for the Euro lights is a jumper wire from inner to outer. The blinkers are different as mentioned above, but visually, they look identical on the car.

Good luck. Hopefully you read through the DIY thread on the F90 group.
