Supply Is Getting Interesting

There are currently zero M3's of any flavor available within 50 miles of San Diego. Going out 200 miles there are 16 listed, but most of these are in transport so most are likely pre ordered customer vehicles. The ones that are on the floor are all $20K+ over sticker. Seems like supply is becoming even more constrained.

What is it like in the rest of the country?

I am looking right now and it's pretty much the same. I found an allocation for a G82 below sticker, so that's most likely the route I'll take (unless I go to another brand, but that's unlikely).

Other premium brands likely have similar issues. I will be waiting till well in to next year. Hopefully supply chain issues will be better. Have disclaimers on most European manufacturers websites

It's getting worse across the board. Costco just announced purchase limits on various household items. Between chip shortages, labor, materials and shipping it's the perfect storm.

I just sold my Aventurine Red for 100k over sticker LOLOLOL

I joke but its so sad as to what the market has become and especially in CA.

Before I got the AR- I did find a few cars out of state at MSRP but as soon as the dealer found out where I lived they created a magical price bump.

It does seem like stock levels are DEFINITELY getting worst. My journey started out with trying to acquire a G80 M3 allocation. Long waiting lists, crazy mark ups, and many unanswered emails left me at a cross road. Went back to Merc and placed an order for an E63 sedan (Preferred a C63 Sedan but production has already ended for the W205). Merc cancelled ALL 22 MY V8 AMG's due to "supply issues" and "emission issues." My allocation was converted to an E53, which I was OK with but then my production date kept getting delayed and delayed and delayed (Merc seems to be suffering far more than BMW on this chip shortage thing). Maybe I kept asking too many questions but my SA turned into an a**hole so I was outta there (Merc is seriously lacking compared to BMW and Porsche on tracking your order. You're solely at the mercy of the SA keeping you informed).

Went back to BMW and G80 Comp allocations were still hard to come by if you can actually get one in SoCal. The easiest route is paying at least a $10k mark up. Some are running like a first come, first serve lottery when allocations are released for the month without a crazy mark-up. Seems like I could never make it in time and all were always spoken for when I could get the SA to get back to me. I was always either too early or too late. I said eff it all together and bought an AW G20 M340i off the lot. Saved some money and going to put the savings towards my 992 order

good luck with that one. was watching a vid about the issues that Porsche has had, this year, with supply. I was floored by this stat - last year, they sold ~ 1200 911's a month. This year...theyve sold 1800, TOTAL. and it aint because folks dont want em, either.

this one dealership had nothing but used cars in their showroom. all the way down to a 1998 Boxster that they were selling for $16k.

these shortages are hitting everybody...

An aunt of mine wants to order a Mercedes E450 coupe to replace her C350 coupe coming off lease next spring. Her long-time sales advisor warned her not only did he not have an allocation, he didn’t know when he might get one. His area got fewer allocations (of all models combined) than there are dealers in that area. Meanwhile, I’m not sure the local Mercedes dealer has ANY new cars on the lot (just retired service loaners and trade-ins), the Honda dealer had 6 vehicles total on the lot, and the Kia dealer had 5 vehicles total. So BMW sitting with 5 new cars and about a dozen ready-to-go used cars is lookin’ pretty good!

Wait what? $100k over? I think you just found an unlimited money glitch.

I am definitely going to give it a year or so as I am too aware of Porsche's major shortages. 992 demand was already through the roof and the chip shortage thing has exacerbated the issue.

MBUSA does what BMW does and sets each dealer's allocation based upon the previous month's sales numbers. Lower volume dealers are going to struggle with this. Your aunt may need to find a higher volume dealer to even get a PO number. Good luck with it actually being produced though.

My local Mercedes dealer has to be among the lowest-volume, and yes, it's struggling to get new inventory (as is its sister BMW store). The dealer my aunt is working with is in downtown Scottsdale, so presumably at least above average, volume-wise.
