Anybody drive a newer Model 3 Performance?

With inability to order a new M3 I'm almost ready to click on the order button for a Model 3 Performance...seems a bargain at 58K with same 0-60 as my old 911...and with gas at near $5/gallon here it might make sense!

For anybody who has driven what did you think? I'm an EE and the techie computer side of me might have some fun with this thing.

I have a 240V outlet in my garage and actually kicked the tires. The Model 3 isn't really an old car but it's kind of starting to look and feel dated. I've really grown fond of wireless carplay and the fact you can't get that or even satellite radio in a vehicle of this price range is absurd. Also the interior is just so spartan and plain and I hate having to look to the middle of the car for any and all information. For this kind of money they really need to put a little instrument cluster in like Ford does with the Mach E. IMO this vehicle is starting to look a lot less compelling now that other EV's are starting to hit the market. In a couple of years it's going to be really outdated unless they do a major refresh.

If all you crave is the trick of winning stop light grand prix at every intersection then you will love this car as it's a great trick. It also drives pretty good as well. Better than an S4 IMO. It's just everything else that's so meh.

Thanks for the feedback! I actually crave a manual (I'm not all about speed) M3 and should never have gotten rid of my 17 F80 M3. Damn.

I hear you can setup a test drive pretty easily, with Tesla. You may want to check that out. Apparently, they just let you take the car out for a while, by yourself. I hear the midrange power is meh, though, even in the Performance. I have a 21 Accord Touring, as a commuter, I may trade that in for one. Its no Model 3 for Performance, and its not going to win any red light races, but its a 13.8 qtr mile, and this 2.0 scoots pretty good. Gas is just nuts, right now.

My issue with the Model 3 is that it doesn't feel special at all....

It's super quick and simple... but not practical for the track
Seats are the most comfortable seats i've ever sat on though....

It's the perfect daily driver....

My dad just got a new one. I was visiting him for 10 days in August and I drove it a few hundred miles. I thought it was an amazing car, loved it. With the way fuel prices are going it was nice to be able to plug it in. Very comfortable. I think my wife prefers it to the G80!

I think it looks pretty cool with small spoiler and performance wheels! I'm not a showy (or track) guy tho and got rid of 911 partially because I didn't like the attention.

I work from home so wont be a daily...prob a fun drive to beach car!

Thx for comments!

Yeah, I did the calcs and cost would be about $11 to drive 100 miles as compared to about $25 gas cost in G80...so pretty significant!

Only thing is it might be best to wait to see what happens with new clean energy laws...tesla might become eligible again for several K discount...

I'm definitely getting one if that happens, again.

Either way, I'm in. That's a good discount. Watch it not be available on the performance.

I don't have a Model 3 performance, but I have an older Model S P85D which has similar acceleration figures. I've had the car as a daily for going on 3 years now, and I absolutely love it as a DD. Autopilot in crappy traffic is amazing, and even 3 years later the acceleration off the line puts a smile on my face. I don't care about racing people, but I love the feeling of that rush off the line and it just doesn't get old.

That said, this car does NOT scratch the gear head itch. While it handles very well and is crazy quick, it lacks the feel and the driver involvement. That's why I currently have a Z4M Coupe as a fun car, which I am trading in on a '22 M3 (probably 6spd).

There's no doubt in my mind that I'm keeping the Tesla long term though. Even as a 2014 model it's only lost about 3% battery capacity after 130k km, and I ran it at the drag strip a few months ago with basically the same figures it was rated at new, 11.8 @ 114mph. Plus 3 years of maintenance has just been tire replacements and rotations, which is great.

TL;DR: M3P is a great car especially as a daily but if you're like me you'll still want a more engaging car to scratch that itch.

Why can't you? Orders and allocations are still going through, just at a slower pace?

I want a 'real' allocation before I order and none really exist in SoCal/nearby...I'm not going to be put on some random wait list...I did that for my 911 and not a pleasant experience.

Picked up a Model Y Performance to replace the i3S, it's a fun car but by no means an only-car replacement. Perks are instant acceleration, comfortable seating and free carpool/Fasttrak. Ton of rorm for passengers and cargo. I drive ~50-75mi/day, charging costs @ home is about $60-70/mo on a net metering account. Fuel costs in the F150 is easily $100/week. If you've never owned an electric car before, you just have to get used to some new habits if driving long distances.

If you love tech, a Tesla might be right up your alley. There's a bit of upgrades already available if you get the mod bug down the road. Keep in mind that Teslas are in huge demand, deliveries can be 3-4 months away depending on configuration.

Thanks!

Won't be a commuter car...just a take out and have some fun car...no long distances as have an X3 for that...not a modder...also, Tesla says November delivery on Model 3 Performance right now...who knows if true or not?!

Depends, the delivery dates are known to jump around. But it seems the Performance models are getting delivered quicker.

Took delivery of my Model 3 performance last week. Waited 3 months for it to be built and it is a fun / quick car. Very comfortable, great sound system and nice tech.

I personally would never have it as my only car though. I still have my R8 V10 with a manual and e92 M3 with a manual as well.

Happy to answer any specific questions if you like.
