What is M DRIVE PROFESSIONAL, wth does it do?

I'm about to place my order on a M4 Comp X-Drive, but I am torn with M DRIVE PROFESSIONAL, a $900 option. The build site says:

"The M Laptimer app, which is available separately for Apple iPhone via the App Store, helps to further expand your performance by providing a comprehensive overview shown in the instrument cluster or optional Head-up Display."

If it's just a lap timer, I don't need it since I track regularly and I already have a Garmin Catalyst and RaceChrono that I am already comfortable using. However, the Drift Analyzer is fun, is that part of this package. Are there any other useful features in this package?

It comes with the 10 stage traction control, I would get it for Xdrive just in case you want to switch to RWD and still have traction control.

Is M Drive Professional worth $900? https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1834478

Several pages of comments here. Hopefully it's helpful! If you are getting the x-drive it does add some capability to adjust your traction control also I believe.

I track with TC off I would probably never use it. I would probably stick to AWD if it ever rains too, but that is excellent info that should have been included in the description!

I think every xdrive car should have the 10-stage traction control. You're already spending quite a bit— what's $900?
I spec'd it on mine. I would get it! Worth it in my opinion…
I'm excited to mess with it whenever I finally get my car.

Agreed, added to my list and placing my order! Thanks for the info everyone!

I agree with others and recommend the 10 stage TC. I drove my M2 Comp daily in MDM but there were times where I wished that I had finer control other than DSC ON (boring), MDM fun but sometimes wanted more, or DSC OFF. MDM is level 8 I think? I also agree with others that it should be standard equipment. The drift analyzer and the lap timer may not get enough use to justify it being part of the base model, but I could see the 10 stage TC being a feature most would want.

No GT4 huh? Going to settle for a I've been very critical of the G80 front end, weight gain, and ugly design

Yup! It's an ugly front end, I'll probably never love it. I was critical of it, but I did concede that it has grown on me a bit. But I can't see it from the driver's seat! Besides, I also drive an i3 so obviously ugly cars are my "thing".

The reviews have convinced me that the weight is a small sacrifice for good engineering and AWD. I've sat in the car and I do like the updated interior (with caveats). The GT4 is still on the list, but I'll wait until the prices come down next year or in the next few years. Or just get the next gen GT4… who knows.
