They have changed the shape of Bourbons

Just cracked open a packet and they are the same shape as custard creams.

Progress eh?

There have always been some that shape. IMO they don't taste as nice as the finger shaped ones!

I've never seen the custard cream shaped ones and I have been eating biscuits as a hobby since 1976

My research has led me here:

http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.c...ze=1&item=1033

These fatter bourbons are not only the wrong shape, they have less sugar, 2 less holes either side and some sort of rectangular relief to the word bourbon.

It's just not right.

They might be fakes, I heard at the WI Coffee morning that there were reports of counterfeit Bourbons coming in from China.

Now I want some bourbons and we dont have any in

I've seen the custard cream ones too, I prefer the longer ones, easier to get in your mouth.

Plus, with the longer ones, you can bit a corner from opposite ends of the biccy and suck up coffee like a straw resulting in a seriously delicious mushy treat.

Other thicker finger biscuits work a treat too, like rocky robins etc.

They appear very much like this:

Instead of the more usual:

They could be fake, but they did taste like bourbons.

States very clearly on wikipedia that they should be 'thin oblongs'

It's really against the natural order of things.

Who makes the custard cream shaped ones? I may lodge a complaint with trading standards.

They should bring back flogging for this sort of thing.

Bourbons, have become a low price 'basics biscuit' range and each supermarket has there take on the product.

M&S, Morrisons, Waitrose and Budgens make them in the custard cream shape and the others make them in the more traditional longer thinner shape.

I only know of Crawfords who make the branded version of a bb and and I think that along side the Waitrose and Morrisons (not value version) stacks up well. Now Crawfords or other branded companies may manufacture for the majors but they are highly unlikely to tell you.

The whole BB pricing strategy is all over the place some are single packs and some are double packs. Mix this with regular and basics range and bring in Lidl and Aldi and you have a confusing market place. You really need to review on a price per biscuit basis to get the best bang for your buck.

It's totally wrong imo! There is such an art to eating a bourbon. You can 'test' yourself with the oblong originals and see if you can remove that top layer in ONE piece to gain access to the yummy centre. Or you can simply dunk in a vertical maneouvre, holding the biscuit JUST long enough before the end drops off into the waiting mug of tea.

I think you're onto something there with possible breach of copyright against the custard creams (not a favourite for me).

I think it's cost cutting.

Imagine a biscuit factory all tooled up to make custard creams. They can't afford to re-tool to manufacturer an irregular shaped biscuit like the Bourbon, so they simply throw some chocolate into the mix and try to pass of their product as a proper Bourbon.

Bastards.

Not a lover of the whips.

I swear packets of crisps are getting smaller too.

I'm sure I remember a day when all standard packets were 30g

Most confectionary companies have reduced the size of chocolate bars, taken one or two sweets out of packets and Pringles have taken out 10% of crisps but not reduced the packaging or price in stores. Cost cutting on product rather than increasing the price. Makes us believe nothing has changed. Keeps their profits up.
