High fuel prices keeping the plebs off the road

Just returned after a 200 mile cross country hoon with the Devil. Roads very quiet. Great to ride Presumably the high fuel prices are keeping the plebs off the road. Long may it continue

Funnily enough I was thinking something similar the other day.

There seem to be a lot less young guys in super hatches on the road than pre covid.

It's almost like the cheap lease / finance deals on A45s, RS3, M140i etc have expired and these guys can't get hold of anything that good in that price range anymore.

Makes me wonder what they will be driving anti socially in now?!

They have all moved to Spalding and just race up and down my road now. I am going to call it 'Pissing-me-off From Home'.

The plebs are still about TBH, as I went to Screwfix this afternoon!

Took a run up to Invarary today and , for a dry / mild / Saturday , the roads were really quiet so maybe you are correct. Good few bike around and a few supercars , inc. a nice Ferrari along with Mr JWW`s collection of Porkers.

Hmmm, down south it seems to be business as usual with more than enough people on the roads, including yoofs intent on being in front. Heading home back north at the end of the month, hopefully for some peace and quiet amongst the Dales (and avoiding the worst of tourist traps). Funnily enough have always kept the bike in the south but maybe it's time to relocate it?

Glasgow roads are definitely quieter. Nowhere near pre pandemic levels. I estimate 30 plus minutes per day saved in driving in my case in work commute.

Not notice much of a drop in traffic but had a quick nose at lease "deals" the other day as I was bored and there really are none for anything interesting.

The Lakes was swamped this weekend too. Some pretty special parking on the country lanes, creating long single lane sections where neither end could see if anyone was coming - always a recipe for chaos.

There is some talk of introducing a charge to drive in the national park which would be used to subsidise public transport. Probably some years away though.

I stopped visiting the lakes a number of years ago in peak periods as it was far too busy for me.

The past couple of years Northumberland has seen a high number of people compared to what we’re used to and our roads are quite busy, not seeing any decline in traffic here. Same problem here with stupid parking in seaside villages and beauty spots and best avoided at weekends.

I agree, and I also think some of the best months in the Lakes are during the winter when the light is hauntingly beautiful especially on the upper fells.

I have been cajoled into going to Istanbul tomorrow for a week with a couple of ladies from the golf club........ really looking forward to it, my first visit to Turkey and I have always wanted to walk across the Bosphorous from Europe to Asia so hope to cross that off the 'Bucket List'

I have never seen more police in London than at the moment. Absolutely everywhere. And I don't have an issue with that - can't have fun here anyway

Traffic feels like it's back to normal and the crackle and pop gang seem to have found their piggy bank so no change there.

On the subject of London and the lakes, I've had more than a few early Sunday mornings in the 90's blatting around the quiet empty streets of central London we used to do dawn raids as I had a friend in Kingston (it was great) but I guess those days are gone, same for the lakes we'd do Skipton to Bowness in under an hour and skim stones on the lake whilst the town woke up, I went up a few months ago and barely recognised the place, the traffic was awful.

Was up visiting my parents last week in the north west and the usual cockish NC500 brigade were out in their M/S/AMG crap being driven like utter dickheads. And on the other end of the spectrum you've got the similar levels of cockishness from the rented camper van brigade too who love to park up and camp in front of peoples houses (or in a free lay-by next to a proper campsite) when they're not driving at 30mph or weaving all over the road. Sadly 185ppl for diesel is doing nothing do dissuade these people from ruining the place with their townie twat attitudes.

I definitely find aggressive driving is much lesser on Glasgow roads. Perhaps with reduced traffic people aren't totally frustrated with bumper to bumper traffic getting on from m77 to m8 and m8 to m77 in rush hour like they used to be and are driving more sensibly.

Well put Ennoch, unless you live in one of these idyllic areas it is difficult to understand what 'hassle' these 'Mobile Hovels' cause. I would ban them from anything smaller than a B road.

Quite agree Coonz, just can't see the attraction of the bloody things. If they aren't spoiling one of the UKs beauty spots they are left outside the owners house making it look like a Pikey encampment.
