Whirring sound at cruising speed, paranoia?

This could be in my head, but this sound is new to me and is driving me nuts as its all I focus on when cruising on the motorway.

I know i`m asking peeps to identify a sound with now audio to back it up - I very much doubt I could filter out all the regular car noise to get it to stand out.

Anyway, it`s a whirring sound under cruising load, seems like a pump, piston, could be the alternator as I spilt oil on it (but think it started a drive before I did that) don't notice it under acceleration because of engine/exhaust noise or when I back of the accelerator. Need to try dumping it into neutral at 70mph to see if I hear it then. Car drives absolutely fine. I`m close to 100k miles.

Worried about Water, oil, fuel pump and basically everything on the car at this point!

Will do some logs to check fuel pump but wondering if anyone can just easily point me in the right direction and how to check that component?
