Harman Kardon Amp model year variations

So it seems like there aren't any options available for an amp upgrade on my 2022 M550i with the 668 HK system.

My 2022 amp is rated at 464 watt. Older 5 series HK amps are rated at 600 watts. Does anyone know if the older 600w part would be a plug and play?

I seriously doubt they "downgraded" the actual output of the amp. They may be measuring different, such as using RMS power rather than peak power?? Even if they were plug and play, I doubt you would notice any difference.

I agree with what you're saying because I don't understand why they would downgrade unless there was a supply issue. I've had salesmen at the dealerships say they changed the system and it doesn't sound as good as it used to. If you go to HK's site, they say 600w. BMW's site now says 464w .

It wasn’t done due to supply issues. They changed the amp for iDrive 7 cars. So it started in July 2019 with MY2020 cars pre-COVID.

They went with a weaker amp and added a booster to it to bring it back to 600W output. The general consensus is that it is a change for the worse. I agree with that although I haven’t used the MY2019 and older variation it sounds much worse than my MB I replaced with a HK system.

I don’t think it is compatible with the older amp due to the introduction of the RAM module. Which is also why you’re not finding compatible units to swap it out with yet.

I posted this in another thread as well…I reached out to BavSound regarding an amp for our cars….here's their response. I encourage everyone to go to the product request link and fill it out.

"Our New Revenant PRO amplifier is not yet compatible with the new G01, G02, G04, G05, G06, G11, G12, G20, and G30 chassis models.

We are only in the research phase of finding the adaptor piece necessary for the Revenant PRO amplifier to work in the G chassis models with Standard HiFi and Harman Kardon audio systems.

Sorry we do not have an anticipated release date. Please feel free to sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of any page of our site for new product announcements.Or use our product request app below and we'll notify you if/when that's ready. "

Anyone can share opinion on the comparison of the HK 600W vs HK 464W?

In terms of sound quality, depth and vocal.

My 2023 has the HK 600 Watt S668A system (16 speakers). The system seems to very good and is quite loud when turned up. I did upgrade the speakers to Bavsound including the underseat bass speakers. Low level volume sound close to factory but crisper. The Bavsound shine at higher volume….deeper bass you feel and much crisper mid range and tweeters.
I’ve heard complaints on the lower watt not being loud or crisp…..very disappointed. I really like my system. I prefer not to hear the BW as I’m sure it sounds the best.

Hey,

You can upgrade with the BMW specific Match UP10BMW from Audiotec Fischer.

It is the "father" for the Bimmertech amp. It is plug & play

Not only for more power, but the DSP will allow you to change the basic tonality for your liking, and if you later decide to go for a subwoofer you can connect to the amp and make a new DSP tune for this.

/Chris

hey,

The pictures does not show all that is needed to answer the question. What MY is the car? What is the factory audio?

anyway.

Bought of a dealer = go back to them and make them fix.

Bought private = call the guy and ask what was installed and what kind of adapter he had on the OEM cables.

If you can, take off the left side trunk panel and see what you find there..

Another note - you have a 1G power-cable with open copper and a fuse in the fuse holder. it is a disaster waiting to happen...

/Chris

Ps. the gound cable and the way it's screwed in the car is plain stupid... For sure not a qualified installer doing this....
