Hi Everyone,

As the title suggests, I'd just like to ask your opinion as my current 2018 G30 520i Luxury passenger seatbelt has no chime/sound despite a passenger/full grow adult sitting. Is this normal or something in need of repair? I've seen a review that this model doesn't have one (driver has ofc),but am unsure if it's a faulty sensor and worried about passenger safety / airbag deployment.

Would love to hear your 2 cents on this from existing users.

Assuming you haven't coded out the seatbelt warning, it sounds like the sensor pad is not working. It's either faulty or it needs to be calibrated and initialized. Has it been replaced recently?

Alright thank you. I never really noticed since my passenger always buckles up before the car even moves. No coding recently but I had a software update around 3 mos ago for the idrive. Maybe this reset it?

It sounds like the seat mat needs to be initialized. I bet the software update has something to do with this. The dealer can do it as well as a coder. Are you under warranty?

Its still not clear if you are the first owner or not. If you’re not the first owner…they could have coded the warning off.

Do you get any other warnings at start up? See examples below of warnings that can be coded off…and again, if you’re not the original/first owner…these warning could be coded off which means you don’t have anything wrong with the car…just deactivated warnings.

Thank you for your input. I'm the second owner, but purchased the car from my brother-in-law and he mentioned no coding was done previously. Yes car still under warranty.

Perhaps the idrive update did reset it. But for you guys, there's an audible warning for the passenger seat right?

Yes, when someone is sitting in the seat and not buckled, you should get the seatbelt chime.

When you start your car, do you see 5 seatbelt sensor icons in the top left dash? Two up from the three in the back? Should show red and turn off. If your passenger is missing, your mat needs to be initialized.

I actually see the top 2, left being the single person icon and beside it is the one w airbag. No bottom 3.

I just had my friend sit now unbuckled and drove around, no chime nor alert in the dash. Weird

Did the light for the passenger seat stay on when he was in the seat unbuckled?

Hi no it shuts off after starting the car, then thats it - regardless if someone sits or not / buckled or not.

The chime or driver alert signal is the only one that goes off upon unbuckling the driver safety belt.

That's not right as you know. You either have a failed sensor or it needs to be activated. I had an sensor put in that was not activated and it did not throw any codes, which is why I suspected that your wasn't activated. But I also did not get the passenger senor light at all on the dash.

So wish I could zero in on it and be more helpful, but you may need a trip to the dealer. You could try hiring a coder to check it out. I can hook you up with mine. He did not charge me to activate it, but I am also bought a license for his software (ProTool).
