iPhone not working?

I have a non-3G iPhone. Since then, I cannot use any of the ipod functions of the phone in the car. The bluetooth works fine, however, when I plug the iPhone in the BMW iPod adapter, it says it is "Searching/Loading" but then does nothing in that AUX mode. The phone itself wants to go to airplane mode, as it normally suggests but beyond that, acts as it normally had in the past. I cannot access playlists, songs, artists, etc. Anyone else have this problem? Suggestions?
