BMW 530e Auto start/stop function
Hi all,
I was driving to work today and messaged popped up saying: "Engine will not start automatically. Press the start/stop button to start the engine." I was driving on battery control mode as I had only few miles left on electricity. The car went to full electric mode and I was not able to change that. stopped and started the car again, engine started no issues. Few miles down same message popped up and car went to electric mode again. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. Last edited by redeckis; 11-29-2022 at 04:22 AM.. |

I don’t know why, but I feel like this is something you’ve posted before. Maybe I’m in a feedback loop though…
If my memory is right. The last time you asked this it was due to the Aux battery needing to be replaced. Either way, you’ll need to either let BMW diagnose it or get a code reader hooked up to the car to read what the error is. |

Hi, thank you for getting back to me.
This is the first time I have ever posted in this group so you might be mistaken. If you can find the post with similar thread would be great. Thanks |

Hi everyone – greetings from 2025!
I’m experiencing exactly the same issue described in this thread. My car is a 2020 BMW 540d xDrive (G30 LCI) with 105,000 km on the odometer. When driving in Eco Pro mode, the engine occasionally shuts off during coasting and then fails to restart automatically. A message appears on the screen: “Engine will not start automatically. Press the Start/Stop button to start the engine.” I have to stop the car and restart the engine manually. There are no warning lights, no error codes, and no symptoms beforehand — it just happens suddenly. Did the original poster manage to solve this issue? If yes, I’d really appreciate hearing what the cause was and how it was fixed. Thanks in advance! |
