Yes, but not easily. If you have Logic 7 your out of luck unless you replace the whole system (including speakers and amps). The reason is, itīs all digital bus between the components. Adaptors/connectors would be quite difficult to build so theyīll at least take quite a while to become availble.
If you have the regular system, itīs feasible but mounting brackes for the deck and electircal adaptors are still a bit hard to come by. The first ones are only now becoming available in europe. (Theyīre in the catlogues but donīt get delivered yet, I have one on backorder) |

Even the non Idrive radio talks the the other computer busses on the car, so I dont know how one would fit a aftermarket deck
If you got Idrive there is a complete fibre optic network running through the car for that system ( thats why you cant fit a aftermarket cd changer with it ) . |

Thereīs several buses in the car. The Radio (all radios) get vehicle informations such as speed, reverse, ignition etc. through the can-bus.
Adaptors / connectors for the Can bus are availble that can be used to generate those signals for an aftermarket deck (even BMW sells them through their parts department in Europe). For all entertainment then thereīs the M-Bus. Thats what the Radio talks to the Logic 7 and the changer on. If you rip out the radio you simply loose that bus, but if you donīt have Logic7 or a BMW changer you donīt need it. The stock speaker setup though can still be driven by an aftermarket deck. Itīs still a regular speaker set powered by the amps in the Radio. With i-drive, thereīs no way to replace with an aftermarket deck. The car would go into fits with the CCC missing. Besides, youīd have the hump and a dead monitor. |

The Can-Bus will not be disturbed by removing the member "Radio". Worst case, the car will log an error due to it lacking. Oh yeah, and good point. If you have bluetooth, removing the radio means no more phone as well. The radio is master for the m-bus (wich you donīt need if ou have no other M(Most)-Bus devices and only a member on the Can-Bus (K-CAN), so you can do without. On for completeness sake, the third bus is engine and chassis-related and I forgot the name.... But the Radio at least is not part of that bus.. |

Yes, so we have to say
You cannot do it if you have Navigation AND If you dont have navigation and do it you loose 1)BMW Cd Changer 2)BMW Bluetooth 3)BMW Sirius Digital radio (USA Only) 4)Some OBC functions 5)Logic 7 And you have to potential for the dealers system to get confused when it uploads new software on the car because it cannot find the radio system to load new software |

Agree
So the Car-Hifi-aftermarket just got even smaller. Iīm going for it anyway. I ordered my 330 without even the Professional Radio (so no M-Bus at all) and will be installing an excellent aftermarket deck with Navigation. Reason: I really need Nav but I canīt stand I-Drive |

Bad news:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...0416#post20416 Seems in the US, even the most stock setup is the middle-range Hifi-System with external amps and therefore M-Bus. So you canīt connect an aftermarket deck to the stock speaker / amp setup. So unless youīre going to rip your car apart and replace all entertainment components, on the US E90, a aftermarket deck is a no-go. |

Thanks so much for this info E90Fleet and Tierfreund. You guys are very knowledgable on this subject. I can just imagine asking a salesman about a bus....
It's quite ironic that you guys are the experts on this and that you're both from the countries that actually make the E90s. Thanks again! |
