Post 2011 BMW 328i 79328 miles maintenance help

Howdy,

I bought this vehicle back in 2015 when it was under 25k miles. Currently, the vehicle is right below 80k miles. So far, the major maintenance I have done is to replace the eccentric shaft sensor.

What other maintenance should I do? Any suggestions? Thank you so much for your wisdom.

If you haven't changed your transmission fluid & filter, you should do that now. It's supposed to be done at 60k. I think that's the only biggie hanging over you. Flush cooling system and brake fluid as well if they haven't been done in the last three years.

You could change your differential fluid as well, or just wait to when it hits 100k miles. You're getting close to oil filter housing leak time, and when you do, change out the Mickey Mouse flange at the same time. Easy job, you may want to do prevenatively. Other than that, watch for oil leaks around valve cover gasket. At some point you'll need to do oil sump and engine mounts, and then eventually water pump. Window regulators and door lock actuators and weak spots, but vary from car to car. Everything else is just regular wear and tear and you'll need to replace at some point, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Find a good independent mechanic that really knows these cars and is willing to diagnose problems. Don't try to find the cheapest one, find the most competent one! Pay for quality fluids and parts. Just about everything I mentioned other than trans service is a doable DIY job. If you're not working on it yourself, give it a shot!

If oil leaks on the belt it will cause this but a weak tensioner will to .
So OFG and VCG

Mike Millers maintenance schedule included in the link.

Check for seepage at the Oil Filter Housing Gasket, replace gasket if found.
If DIYing the OFHG, change the MickeyMouse flange out for aluminum version at the same time.

I'm at similar mileage as your car and the comments above are great advice. I scan my car regularly for any codes that may not display as a warning on the dashboard, so you can either do that through a code reader or mechanic.

Other thing I would add is ensuring the battery is solid, since a bad/aging/incorrect battery can cause so many issues with these cars. Also, the starter motor for the engine can become weak over age and the car might be slower to crank/startup. Had my starter replaced recently (in addition to most things mentioned above) and it made a huge improvement.

Regular oil changes (well before the 15k BMW recommends) are also important.
