Since it's been a few months since you posted, how much did your E90 60k service cost? I just hit that mark and I need to take it in for service. Did you take it to the dealer or your local mechanic?

$250 to $300 dollars sounds about right for a 60K service. The 100K service is a big one so you should sell your 3 series at 98K and buy one for the same price with 101k on it that has already had the service done.

JK, about selling and buying, not the cost.

Just went in to get an estimate on my 60K service... Here's the details of how much BMW wants to rip me off:

1. Scope - $150
2. Vehicle Emission - $298
3. Break Fluid Flush - $230
4. Coolant change - $260
5. Forced Induction (don't really know what this is) - $230
6. Power Steering Fluid Flush - $245

Grand Total: $1,413

Umm... Can anyone tell me which of these are necessary? I understand that service on cars are needed but $1,413 for a 60k is just ridiculous. Any other options? Cuz BMW claims that only they offer the "scope" (whatever that does other than reset ur comp) and I should get the job done at the dealer... Please help.

In the past I was also quoted a scope cost to get some service done on the car. If I understand correctly, the scope is the process where the computer read the car information to see if there are any exceptions reported on the vehicle. But $150 is kinda high I guess it when up since then along with the economy. In anycase, i refused the service.

1. - That's the standard check on the GT1. You can clear the light yourself.
2. - If your car has an emission problem it will throw an engine code.
3. - This is an easy DYI.
4. - Another easy DYI.
5. - Sounds like a fuel injector flush, not sure its worth it unless your engine is running poorly.
6. - Wouldn't hurt to do, but most cars don't require it. Use a turkey baster and do it yourself.

All of these items could be faked and they charge you $1,400 for nothing... None are called for under the maintenance requirements in the manual, except the brake fluid flush every two years.

Go to another dealer and get a second opinion. These does not seem right at all.

Some people in this forum recommend changing transmission fluid and rear differential fluid too!

Yeah thats a rapage at its best. The brake fluid change is the only thing I can see that is needed, I know I have the induction thing on my service record from the past, but I dont know what it is either???

I am going to have to look into 3 and 4 DIY style.

I dunno but from where i live, when my 06 325i reaches 60k service (could be this year end), my car should have the front and back break pads and sensors change, oil change and car inspection by the dealer (according to info from the car it self). Total should be around USD720. Hoping for less.

When I talk about an induction cleaning, it means that I will suck "seafoam" cleaner into the throttle body. There is usually a tube that runs from the top of the oil basin back to the intake to recover any vapors and send them through the combustion system to burn. That is a good place to suck the seafoam in. It usually takes about 20 minutes to get all of the cleaner into the system. It does a full throttle body and injector cleaning. If you do it too fast, you'll stall the car and can cause serious damage. Seafoam is nothing more than a good fuel injector cleaner. B12 chemtool would work, too. I just did it on my Subaru with 117k miles and it ran like new when done.

This may or may not be what BMW is talking about. At 60k miles with good fuel, it may not be necessary. At 100k with crap fuel in my subaru, it was worth my 20 minutes.

I doubt it. It's just a light to get you into the dealer to hook the car up to the service computer for a check of systems. I doubt the car keeps a record of every time it's hooked up to the GT1. Also, if you didn't buy an extended warranty, the dealer is not going to care how you maintain the car anyway after 50,000 miles.
