530e Xdrive - max charge is 14miles? (100%)
I'm charging my 2023 530e Xdrive using Level 1 charger overnight and noticed that it's only going up to 14miles and showing 100%. is that expected? not the 19miles/21miles I was expecting. Also, seems to be very slow, taking 10hrs to fully charge.

Does level 1 mean you are plugging into a normal household plug socket? If so then 10hrs seems about right.
The range will vary based on your driving style and how much you have the aircon / heating on. You can gain 2-3 miles just by turning it off! This is why it is good to precondition the car before setting off so you don't loose valuable range getting the car to the internal temp you want. to get 19 mile range you need to drive like miss daisy in eco mode. |

on Level 2 charger. what’s realistic charge time? moving to new house soon, thinking about adding 240V outlet in garage and updating to L2 charger. I’m assuming intra day charging will become more realistic.

L2 charges in under 3 hours @ 16A the max the car can support.
Range will depend on driving style and you’ll see reduced range in the winter compared to the summer. Since NJ is in Winter you’re seeing range reduction as a result. Batteries are less efficient in the winter and you’re demanding expensive things like heat. Preconditioning on L1 is less useful than L2 as the L1 charger can’t recoup the energy loss demanded by the HV heater. |

You can't compare the range people overseas are posting as their cars are programmed to use ALL available charge, but have a lower manufacturer warranty term. All NA cars are programmed use only 80% of available charge (9.2 kWh x 0.8 = 7.3ish kWh usable) to help with battery life. Oversea cars get better range but I suspect they might have more battery degradation over time. It would be nice to change this coding once the warranty term is over for the NA cars who want a bit more range. Also for MY2020 cars and up they got a boost in capacity to 12kWh (80% = 9.6 kWh usable) so people need to post which model they have also to properly compare. I've been getting around 12-15 kms per charge (I've only had the car since Jan) with pre-conditioning enabled and driving with all HVAC, seats and wheel loads off. I've heard that the preconditioning can peel a bit of range as it uses the HV battery first, then the charger tries to catch up. If you leave on time you would in theory not be at a true 100% charge state as there wasn't enough time for the charger to catch up. Also if the car is too cold I've noticed the car disables the use of the electric system until the batteries warms up. Today I left to work when it was -7 deg C without pre-conditioning and it took about 3-4 kms of driving with the ICE engine only before the electrical drive system came on. Check with your local utility to see if they have incentives for reduced cost L2 chargers.
I got mine for 50% off through my utility. Granted my utility is doing me dirty with my rates…so I really paid full price for the charger.
