2022 540I X Drive: Tune / Flash Options

I picked up this car about 18 months ago and am ready to start doing some mods. I was looking into carbahn and JB4 but wanted to see if there where other options that people liked better?

I would like to pick up around 100hp to the pavement while keeping the car as reliable as possible. I understand that probably more than just a tune will be required to get there.

Are flash tunes available yet? If not is it worth waiting?

Thanks!

Since it is a 2022, if you want to flash the DME you will need to send it to Femto in Finland to get it unlocked. Otherwise I think JB4 is the most popular piggyback option on this forum.

Thanks for the quick response!

With the unlock option what are the advantages? Just a cleaner install or from that point can you adjust everything? IF unlocked are there companies that then sell upload tunes?

Short question, looooong answer Read through some of the other discussions on this forum.

For example, on another thread you asked about downpipes. If you do downpipes you will get a CEL, and the only way to suppress that is with a DME unlock/tune. Bolt-ons like JB4 offer great performance for stock configurations but if you want to modify the engine a DME tune will eventually be necessary. Also beware that if the I-Step is ever updated it will re-lock the DME so you would need to disable OTA updates and make sure the dealer doesn't ever do it.

Makes perfect sense and thanks for taking the time to answer my noob questions. I have my own dyno and do my own tuning but I haven't gone done the mod rabbit hole very far on my daily for fear of what it will spiral into lol.

Sounds like for now a JB4 and maybe some BAVSound subs are as far as I am going to go.

Maybe when the direct ECU flash gets cracked by more companies I will look down that path.

That sounds like a wise path to follow, at least as long as your warranty is active. Now if I could just get some time on that dyno of yours...

Hard to believe it’s been over two years since I originally posted this. I still have the car and absolutely love it.

My original plan was to upgrade to the newest 5 Series by now, but honestly, I’m just not a fan of the new models.

Has there been any progress on local DME unlocks or standalone options, or are we still limited to FEMTO?

Thanks!

Bumping to subscribe. Same boat, almost but have a 2022 540 non xdrive. Have you been running the JB4? If so, thoughts please? I don’t like the look of the new 5 series either. Picking up a JB4 and wanting that to tickle the new car bug. Trying to decide if I should change my plugs and coils beforehand. I’m at 53k miles.
