Which 1-series would you want?

1) 1-er Coupe
2) 1-er Cabrio
3) 1-er Hatch

Assuming that all models are equal...engine availabilty/options, and that the 3-door hatch were available in N/A...
which model interests you most?

Yep, I'm a huge fan of the hatch. I'd get this in a shot if it were available here.
Funky/Fun/Functional.

Now that sales of the Audi A3 sportback (hatch) have absolutely tanked
in the U.S., I doubt this version of the 1-er will ever see our shores.
Too Bad!

1. Coupe
2. Cabrio
3. 3-door hatch

x. 5-door hatch

I'm still not a big fan of the hatch but I'm really waiting to see the 3-door IRL because, atleast in pictures, it looks so much better than the old one. I think big wheels make a big difference with the hatch, like in brooksides pic.

The coupe and convertible will do just fine. Hatchbacks are unwanted in North America, but BMW already knows this.

I'm a big fan of the coupe, but were the 3-dr hatch to be available in NA, there would be a choice to make. We have a minivan, so the practicality of the hatch isn't a deal-maker, but it is a consideration nonetheless. I'd probably still go with the coupe on the basis of looks/image/personal preference...

Six votes so far and not one for the cabrio... interesting.

hatch. although the coupe is a great looking car. the hatch has a great style and practibilty that attracted me to this car. and if I was going to get a bmw convertible, it'd have to be a z.

I need the utility of the hatch, but I want to be reminded of my '71 2002 even more! If it had a 175hp common rail turbo-diesel, I'd buy one for my wife as well.

Is the 1-er hatch available in Mexico?

It's either the 1er cabrio or the upcoming A3 cabrio - else, I'll keep my 2003 Z4 til the wheels fall off..

This is sweet. A bit boy-racer/beach-cruiser...but very nice.
Couldn't resist posting the image after reading carnut's picks.
Looks like Audi is full-on with LED technology.

That is one sweet ride. If the A3 cabrio looks exactly like that, a 335i 1er cabrio vs a A3 3.2 quattro cabrio is gonna be a really tough choice to make.
Maybe one of each?:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Wait, the A3 cabrio will slot above the TT roadster? But the TT roadster STARTS at $37K, and while it's based on golf chassis, at least it's modified with aluminum space frame. The A3 cabrio, on the other hand, will no doubt be built on regular Golf chassis. It will prbably be an Audi version of the Eos, hard top or not. Besides, Audi is pushing the new TT to be a genuine Z4 fighter. My guess is that if it ever comes true, A3 cabrio will be priced below the TT.

BTW, that chop looks pretty good except for the typical Audi loooong front overhang.

The pricing doesn't make logic. TT/A3 cab.
The VW/Audi overhang supposedly will disappear beginning with the introduction of the next model A4.
I think the next complete redesign of the A3 is in 2008-9.
This new cab will probably be riding on the current (8P) A3/Golf platform.

Yeah, I heard that the front overhang issue will be addressed in the future. In fact, the all new A5 is supposed to be the first application of this new chassis layout where the engine gets pushed back a few inches.

While the overhang looks definetely shorter than before, it's about as short as well designed transverse mounted FWD cars. Still noticeably longer than Bimmers.

Tell me about it! The irony for me is that my new BMW will probably have a marginally useful back seat, effectively making it a two-seater... just like my MINI. It will be bigger and heavier; and without the hatch opening and higher roofline, it will have less cargo room. And for some reason, I still want it. Hmm. Must be the promise of power and the way it's going to look and drive.

There's no question that hatches are way more practical than coupes. Coupes just look better. There, I said it. (Taking cover now...)

I joined just so I could put in my 2cents here...

What I want is probably the last 1-series that will be here (if it ever comes). Give me the 5-door hatch with the diesel engine. I don't need a boy racer coupe or 2-door hatch, I prefer the 5 door's versatility. I'd love a car with the gas mileage of diesel that also has BMW longevity, quality and handling. I drive 30K miles a year, it would certainly come in handy. I guess I'll have to go with a Golf or Jetta with the TDI, but VW definately doesn't have half the reliability (or handling, feel, etc) of BMW.
