Any N54 reliability issues so far?

I wanted to see if any 535i or 335i owners had experienced any reliability issues with the N54 motor yet. I'm salivating for a 135i but I don't want to be left in the lurch with an unreliable turbocharged engine.

There are 335 owners that have tracked their vehicle and it has overheated due to oil temps (limp mode).

Kind of figured it's the same thing, just read more "high oil temperatures' than overheating, which was never mentioned.

someone at bimmerfest estimated that 10% of the fuel pumps were failing but i'm not sure if that's accurate or a current figure.

BMW is retrofitting a second oil cooler for 335 people who complain and have experienced limp mode due to the high temps...

Makes me wonder if the 135i with its, I assume slightly smaller engine bay, will experience even worse oil temp issues than the 335i.

I think the fuel pump issue is a bigger menace than the oil temperature problem.

I dont know oil temp can be just as detrimental to a turbo as fuel problems.

The motor on the 135 will be called the N54HP it will be fixed of all current 335i problems such as the fuel pump and oil temperature.

By the time N54 is in the 135i, bmw will have over a year worth of data on 335 & 535i's. So at least we won't have the 1st batch of issues that plague all new engines.

The N54 will definitely evolve, but I'm still not comfortable with an engine that runs so hot.
My S54 barely breaks 100 C (212 F) at the track & never on the street (95 C).
I'm looking at the 1er as a long term daily driver.
Because of the high oil temp, I would definitely go 128i if full M Sport was available.
(not holding my breath on that one....

)

Yeah... I'm not too happy with the heat issue either.

I can remember once when I was traveling with a van and I was driving a 325e. I was cruising at 85 for a couple of hours and when we pulled over the van was running so hot that the paint had blistered on it's hood. OTOH you could still touch the 325e's engine. That powerplant definitely ran cool. :roundel:
