I cleaned up the color chart that's already been posted...less glare, and more accurate representation of colors.
For me, the toughest choice is which blue to choose and is getting the Le Mans Blue (assuming it's available in N/A) worth the cost of a set of wheels I don't particularly want...#337 sport packet.
Le Mans Blue..if you've seen it in person it's so blue it about knocks your eyes out...super saturated color compared to Montego Blue which is a less saturated mid-tone with lots of metallic - but also a stone winner.
Feel free to post colors you'd like to see on the 1-er that aren't available that would be ideal for your ride.

That color is really nice, do you think it will be available in NA?

I think it will...for $1500! Figure BMW usually has one or two premium colors available on any given model...and maybe they'll go that route on the 1-er here in N/A besides the exclusive colors of Sedona Red and Cashmere.

Actually $1500 would be a bargain because you get the 261M 18"'s in the 337 sport packet as part of the deal. More than that and you've priced guys like me out of the market.

261M's look a little like these kelleners that maxx posted in another thread. Pretty nice?
I think I'm talking myself into it.

Damn, that is nice but 1500 is quite a bit. I guess it will all depend on where the car starts at. It would be nice to have a unique color as there will be less of them on the road.

So I was pretty set on the sparkling graphite, until you posted the le mans blue.... hmmmm so many choices. This is going to be a long nine months.

Anyone know if the Monaco Blue is just a rename of the very classy Midnight Blue someone had Photoshopped onto one of the PR photos in another thread? Monaco looks a little darker to me in this chart image but this scan is clearly of pretty poor quality - you can hardly see the differences in the two reds here.

Le Mans blue is similar to R32 Deep Blue.

I was curious about the same question...near as I can tell just googling the two names they look very similar.
I'm going to guess that midnight blue is darker...for sure one of the best paint colors BMW ever came up with...& usually found in the "individual line" on various models including the Z4.

Here's another incredible color and definitely not for the faint-hearted. It's called "Ruby Black"
and I think this is an M6 that it's on. I've heard that there were some issues about how "soft" the paint was/is and that it marred easily.

I think the trick with the Bangle exteriors is to either flatten out all the different surfaces with solid colors like black and white so that what you're seeing is the general outline of things,or go with highlighting the gestural surfaces that these mid-tone metallic paints like Sedona Red and Montego/LeMans Blue really bring out.

I noticed in the German brochure that the first paragraph is all about "nimble impressions", and "stamped dynamic surfaces." ( I'm slowly translating it) The first thing the Brit brochure addresses are the economical diesels. Very different selling points...very different "takes" on what the 1-er means.
It will be interesting to see the way the 1-er is marketed in the US...are we getting the hot Bangle design or another interpretation that might stress economy and smallness of scale?

My own feeling is to go with the fun- the clouds are drifting away (11/08)!!!

Hmmm...hope you are wrong, to me Monaco Blue is a great match for this car. But logic dictates that BMW is unlikely to assign a new name to a paint already in use so you are probably right.

I saw a segment on BMW's paint application procedures, they use a dry clearcoat process which they claim is unique to them - easier on the environment and less waste, I don't know if it has any advantages in terms of the paint's properties.

I'm sure I've seen both colors in person and the midnight blue looked darker and monaco blue much more blue in sunlight. But I could've mixed them up.
In any case both colors are gorgeous. BMW "owns" blue.

If you ever find that link would you post it? Thanks.

Boy me even thinking about a color other than white depends on where that base sticker is....I might have to throw my CSL's out the window for this beauty.

Monaco Blue

And me thinks the car listed below is Midnight Blue, which looks lighter in color...

Wiggum, I really distrust the e-bay photo because it's taken with a cheapo low-res digital camera and they are horrible shots. This is midnight blue.
It is a blue so dark you really can't tell there's blue in the paint color until you're up next to it. But again, I could be wrong and Monaco blue could be darker.
But I don't think so.
