Just How Small Will BMW Go?

I believe this has been discussed before...but I came accross this on worldcarfans.com....for those who like smaller lighter.....smaller lighter......I am not sure if this car would be badged a Z2? I know that some automotive critics have warned BMW not to focus too much on smaller cars....but, with MPG demands.....they don't have a choice....and I believe there is a market for these smaller cars in the Future for the USA.

Just How Small Will Bmw Go?
BMW already has experience with producing really great small scale automobiles. What would you say if I told you they were going to produce a BMW sized Mini - yes I know that sounds confusing, but If Bmw had their own small styled Mini car then they could compete with Audi's soon to be hot car the Audi A1.
According to 'Hemscott', BMW is indeed working on "a new small car based on the Mini that will compete with Volkswagen AG unit Audi's forthcoming A1 compact car." Their source for the new BMW car is from the cover of a new 'Auto Moto Und Sport' magazine. Just what could the vehicle be called? How about the "BMW City"- and it is speculated to appear in market sometime in 2010.

There are some Z2 prototype pics in that thread. I highly doubt that there will be a BMW the size of a Mini, since they own that company, and it would most certainly cannibalize sales of that car.

BMW did do a small car concept like the E1 (Z11) and Z13, and that car is much smaller than the current Mini.

That is one ugly F'n car...........This has been brought up before.....but just for conversation purpose, BMW did get a registered US trademarks on March 20, 2007 and April 11 2006 for Z2 and Z1, respectively. Seems like the TOP dogs at BMW are covering their asses to ensure no one takes their names for any future cars in the Z product line. Does this mean we will get a Z1/2 to compete against the Miata? Only time will tell. This is a nich market with a limited customer base.............
