why would you want fake leather?

mini's come with it standard, I switched mine to cloth, it feels better, does not get cold/hot, warms up faster, and I don't slide around on it when I push the car

Good point,

But, in my experience with leatherette is that it take more maintenance, in turn if you care for it, it cracks. And in a place with alot of sun, it sucks. Also, its breaks in better then leather.

Oh, and there is something about cloth and BMW in the same sentence, that does not sit well with me.

The US press release clearly states:
Quote:
The BMW 1 Series Coupe is available with a choice of two upholstery options—sporty and comfortable Leatherette or rich Boston Leather. Boston Leather upholstery adds further style to the high-quality impression of the interior. And as a practical feature, map pockets are integrated in the lower part of the doors. The optional Sport Package includes sports buckets seats with enhanced side support and are finished in highly distinctive leatherette materials or Boston leather.
I'll take leatherette over cloth any day of the week...

Part of the confusion is due to the UK 1er coupe brochure. The UK is getting the 120d and 123d in addition to the 135i. The base versions of the 2 diesels will come with cloth interiors. As MPower quoted from the US press release both the 128i and 135i will come standard with leatherette and Boston leather is an option.

Leatherette would be something I would consider only if it was perforated. My Mini had non-perforated leatherette and it was brutal in the summer.

I'll take leatherette (lets be honest and call it vinyl) over leather or cloth any day of the week. Modern vinyl is excellent, and it will easily last 3 times as long as leather before it cracks and looks like hell.

I really wish they had a cloth option in the US. I put a cloth Recaro in my Benz, and it's so much better in winter and summer, and grips better in the occasional autox event.

I can't figure out why vinyl is considered more upscale, and why we never get the choice of cloth in the US. :iono:

That was a UK brochure. Read the American Press Release. Cloth is standard in UK, but Leatherette is standard in America.

I believe that cloth interior has been standard on models in other countries but not here in the U.S. I doubt that cloth will be standard here.

In regards to leatherette, I absolutely love it. It wears well and looks good with time and it's also easy to clean and maintain. The avearage person will look at a car with leatherette and think it's leather. BMW does a great job with leatherette.

Hell yeah i'll take it.

I would like cloth as well - for all the reasons stated above. I have the 1/2 cloth, 1/2 leather in my MINI.

However, the letterette in the new MINIs is pretty amazing - I just drove an R56 and could have sworn it was leather.
I don't need to pay extra for the leather.

Another vote for cloth seats in the U.S. Are you listening BMWNA?

+1 I agree--I find the leatherette on my E92 to be the best of both worlds--it has the leather look and feel, but is much more durable and doesn't carry the cleaning and conditioning requirements of "real" leather.

Never been a fan of cloth, especially with a dog.

Cloth, please. It's lighter weight than vinyl or leather (every ounce counts!) and cooler since it breathes in summertime. I don't like seared ass, thanks.

The best seats I ever had in a BMW were the houndstooth cloth sports seats in my old, deceased E30 325eS. Comfortable all day long and gripped like a mofo in corners.

FYI The vinyl in the MINI is not like the leatherette in the BMW. BMW leatherette is really pretty good. It's interesting that they are going to still let you have a choice of leather vs. leatherette ieven if you get the M-Sport pkg.

Something free from BMW? Oh hell no. I meant that I'm surprized they didn't bundle in the leather with the sports package...which means you'd have to pay more for the package.
